I hung around that site a long time, and I think they were serious. If you want to get immediately excoriated over there, all you have to do is say something like (to use an old and perhaps less controversial anymore example) ''Well, what about Paula Jones?'' About 2/3 of the site's readers were women, and while I appreciate the feminist POV at Wonkette and in general, because I think today's women have much to teach to old coots like me, and we have much to answer for, there were some real hardcores over there, ready to jump your shit if you misused a word. The site had a huge schism during the Epstein case over whether to call rape victims under age 18 ''underage women'' or ''children.'' I don't find that mentality here, the sort of ''men are horrible creatures'' thing I saw so often there. I don't want to badmouth too much, because the editor's a really good guy, but some of his writers and readers were so far left they'd make Wonkers look centrist. I was asked to leave but they did me a favor, because otherwise I wouldn't have found this place, which gets far more reader interaction and is more fun IMO anyway. Wonkette is sort of what Pajiba used to be.
