I had a slide rule in high school. Only about 2 people owned calculators, and they were huge and were worn on the belt. I love that scene in the Apollo movie where they are all doing some emergency computing with pencils and papers. Maybe slide rules were in it.
I got an appointment at a Sam's for later in the week (Florida). It was the only thing I could find online when they reduced age to 60 last week. I have this fear that I will show up and they'll say, oops, sorry, mistake, even though I have an email confirmation. But today I got a call from one of the local county health departments that would have made an appointment and a text that the city is setting up mass vaccine things this week, so there's that.
From what I remember of the house catching fire, this is entirely accurate. Unfortunately, then you just have to keep going, because the briefest and most clear part of a house fire is the bit before the fire department gets there.
