Happy Labor Day, workers of the world! While you and your grillables marinate in anticipation of the big holiday Bar-B-Q/bonfire, we bring you these offerings from the comments queue. Just be careful not to leave them out too long -- like mayonnaise, they go bad in the sun.
Well yes, if you're saying the Saturn V should have been preserved and possibly even favored as a heavy lift system over the shuttle program, I wholeheartedly agree with that. The problem then is the same as the problem now: it is difficult to get the funding levels necessary. That is why the SLS exists, the comparison chart I posted shows how the SLS is going to cost a pittance in inflation adjusted dollars per launch compared to the saturn V. Its also NOT really including a ton of the sunk costs, as the author of the chart notes the figures on pre-NASA spending on the rocket systems that led to Saturn I and ultimately saturn V are lacking for obvious reasons.
Yes, if Robert Kennedy had become president and decided to keep funding Saturn V, we'd probably have a permanent moonbase already. I've just already mourned and moved on from that beautiful dream, its not coming back anytime soon.
<i>OK, but if that&rsquo;s the case, mister smart guy, then who took Joey Ramone&rsquo;s baby away, huh? &ldquo;FBI&rdquo; and &ldquo;DHS&rdquo; don&rsquo;t even rhyme with &ldquo;away.&rdquo;</i>
&quot;The <b>NRA</b> took my baby away&quot;???
Also not sure what you mean about continuing evolution of Saturn V, the rocket technology it was based on was developed for ICBMs, and that HAS continued to evolve in the interim. The difference is we&#039;ve found ways to make nukes more deadly and effective without weighing as much, so heavy lift systems have fallen out of favor. The main thing NASA is working on now is making the manufacturing and design process simpler and cheaper through new tech like 3D printing for rocket parts.
Don&#039;t laugh -- Prancer was a total thug and the main instigator behind Rudolph&#039;s ostracism. (Later on they became bros after Rude got his mojo.)
In the One Star State, the chief &quot;regulator&quot; of the oil industry goes around giving speeches promoting the state&#039;s oil industry.

Geeze, Dok, I don&#039;t think I could handle the comments bin.
Pretty sure the goal is to make the per flight cost of the SLS somewhat less than the Saturn V, as illustrated here: <a href="http:\/\/forum.nasaspaceflight.com\/index.php\?topic=30594.0" target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=...">http://forum.nasaspacefligh...

Or else booking a flight on the next astral plane.

Texas has been creating all of those great jerbs lately because its residents have to work three or four of them in order to earn enough to get by.
I&#039;d rate it about with &quot;liberal ass goons&quot;, but below &quot;worthly Wokette skum&quot;.
But he&#039;s talkin&#039; bout Neil DeGrasse Tyson...and I can dig it!
Everything&#039;s bigger in Texas .... &#039;cepting IQs.

Oh, you wish you could breed with Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
Just fishing for clickies.
Who ya gonna call?!
DERPBUSTERS!!
yeah, but I never got in trouble for it
