The random scrolling in comments is not a feature that I like. I think Wonkette should fix that. And no excuses that it is caused by the kitten that keeps jumping onto my keyboard!
Sounds like Republicans trying to play the expectations game so a 19 point win for the Democrats can be spun as a "win" for Republicans. The fact is open seat races are always closer than incumbent re-elections, and special elections can be screwy what with irregular turnout. Stansbury is likely to win comfortably, 10 points would be considered solid, less than that would suggest Democrats should do a post mortem to figure out whether they need to improve their turnout operation (too much GOP enthusiasm, too little Dem enthusiasm, or both). But expecting a blowout beyond ten points is unrealistic and just plays into GOP spin.
Something to keep in mind when the media says that Republicans are all but guaranteed to take over the House next year. None of this is baked in, and we seem to have plenty of money to pump into these races.
so much this. it would also be a nice thing if Teh Mediahzâ„¢ could maybe not make every damn thing a fucking horse race.
Media: "The received wisdom is that the party holding the presidency loses seats in the midterm"Also the media: "We will keep repeating this received wisdom ad naseum, ignore the openly treasonous actions by sitting republicans, ignore voter suppression, and then congratulate ourselves for being right again when the dems lose seats in the midterms. "
