I definitely remember Ken saying something about quitting his computer and hiking the California coastal trail (which dosn't actually exist). Well, maybe you could walk on the side of Hiway 101 and claim it's a "trail". At the time, I lived on the San Fernando Road in the last north pass from the San Fernando Valley, which is on the old Via Real and is the second longest road in America, but who's counting.

Anyway, we (me) fretted about maybe Ken might pass by my cottage and I would have to esplane to him about obligations to humanity, but that didn't happen, so... something something Gawker, and a lady came out of nowhere but not really and said "Here I stand" and gave him a big sandwich and suddenly I have to sign into Dicksucks and thus we carry on into the next century. And Washington is still oh, so far away, not to mention probably insane.

Well, anyway, that's how I remember it. Time flies.

I used to post as "Beanball". Diksuks refuses to remember that moniker. And while we're at it, my DKos # is 366**. It's been 10 years since I posted to that site. I used to publish a blog (for 16 years and I even argued with Glenn Greenwald on it: he's always been a reactionary 'originalist', as well as a pompous ass.)

Today I counsel veterans. Many of their stories make me nauseous. Still, I am blessed when they say, "Thank you for listening."

Thank you, Rebecca.

I remember following Pinkham and BCO over, and I never left. Though I mostly just lurk these days because Disqus just refuses to work for me more often than not.

Congratulations Becca! Wishing you and Wonkette many happy years!

I first started reading in the AMC/Washingtonienne days, so it's been a while, and this version of the site is FUCKING AWESOME. Even better now that it is Ad-Free ... when I stopped reading after the disaster of Nov 2016, and came back some time in 2020, it was so much improved.

I remember the Wonk Meet in SF in 2014! It was my first big Trip Out For An Event in a while because I had Epstein-Barr. So exciting to have the energy to take BART and the bus. I was touched by the young gay couple who had just moved to SF listening attentively to this now older lady talking about what it was like in the mid-80s when I moved there during the height of the AIDS epidemic (and before the feds gave a flying shit so we had to take care of each other). I kind of realized that's one of The Stories I Can Tell the Kids of living through history.

I treasure your thank-you emails. Also, every time you hit a 'like' on my Twitter replies. I love supporting this mommyblog that doesn't allow comments.

You're doing great, Rebecca. This is the first thing I look at each morning, then I get bored and go over to Balloon Juice, then I get bored there and go over to Eschaton, then I get bored there and bother to check my email.

Started lurking around the time of Newell and Layne, started commenting I dunno years ago. May whatever cosmic forces pull the levers and push the buttons of our reality, may they smile and let us remember the adage, "If you can't say something nice, come sit by me." Teh Wonkette, she has saved my life and sanity. I live in a deep red part of U.S. America and I felt lost until I found the Wonkette.

Now, about 'Trix. I think we should take her off her probationary period. She seems to have done well over the last 10 years -- JK I lurve dat woman!! She got a mouth on her!! Says what she thinks!! Probably gets loud when she's had enough to drink. A place in my heart forever.

Aw, Rebecca and also Shy. Both the wedding and the babby posts were before my time - I came in somewhere around Sundays with the Christianists and the collapse of Jezebel - so I ain't never read them before and now I know your history and it is lovely. I might even be a little teary under this Pisces new moon, go figure.

I'm a worse "Texan" cause I'm in NY state and go to Texas Roadhouse occasionally. My friend from Amarillo who lives about an hour from me now was semi-appalled. Also she told me when the Texas Roadhouse in her town opened all her friends there started ribbing her about it too.

Many people may not know this, but Norma Waterson sadly died on 30 January 2022. Not that Amercian media would give a flying feck about one of the greatest Brtitish folk singers ever.

I was lucky enough to meet her, her husband Martin Carthy, and their daughter Eliza Carthy when they played in my town back in 2007. Got to talk with them, and got some LPs and CDs and a poster autographed. A very sad loss.

Here is a story from The Guardian...

Serious question:

Do any of you seriously believe that there will still be any substantive trace of what passes for "civilization" by 2032?

Trump's most bestest pal Vlad is fixin' to throw a fairly significant tantrum if the Ukraine thing doesn't go his way. Everybody wants to ignore this fact, but Vlad is both "former" KGB, and *totally bugfuck crazy.

I mean, yeah - go ahead a keep pretending that whatever subset of "us" manage to survive the next ten years won't have resorted to cannibalism just to remain "alive" by then.

We are either *headed for* - or already in the early stages of - "World War III", and no amount of "economic sanctions" is actually going to stop Crazy Vlad from flash-frying significant swaths of the planet if/wne he gets pissed off/desperate enough.

No "midterms" - no "election" in 2024. Probably the biggest question on your mind by then (assuming you're still alive) is: "is that rat safe to eat?"

Don't misunderstand me: I wish I was wrong on this one.

But I'm most likely right - and everybody wants to pretend otherwise.

I genuinely urge everybody to download and read this book, because it might actually allow some of y'all to survive (if that's what you're into):

Just sayin'.
