Because they can't. They're not mentally wired to give a rat's ass about the people they clearly hate. So, they can't effectively govern to meet their needs. They view those people as "the problem," and the only way they see to eliminate the problem is to eliminate the people who suffer from the problem (not eliminate the cause of the problem.)

DeSantis knows there is no path to the presidency being Trump's bitch. He's not going to call him out directly, but he's betting the odds are Trump implodes at some point, and if it's not before the 2024 primaries, there is always 2028. DeSantis is only 43, he's got time, Trump doesn't.
