How did Trump not pardon such a glorious American who just wanted to make everything great again with votes . . .

Wait, with violence.

Not that Trump has any problems with that.

Again, 87 months. The bottom line minimum sentence. Could've rounded up to 90 or made it 91 to get a nice 7 1/2 yrs.

Bare. Minimum.

Indeed, a large part of the reason Judge Cooper gave him such a long sentence was because he continued to make threats to overthrow the government on social media.

And the government generally frowns on that.

My bother told me he'd tell people he was in the war in Vietnam. Made up stories about it. Snickered when he was telling me about it, amused that people believed him.

In truth, he was drafted in, like, 1970, but joined the Navy get out of the fight. Had a 180-day waiting period which, by the 5th month Navy goes yeah... we're not taking anymore 2-year enlistments, so you can sign-up for 3 years or get cut loose. Guess what he did. (I would have done the same, and my BIL did, but actually went into the Navy and became a medical technologist.)

"Strict Father" vs. "Nurturing Mother" model of parenting. Former victims end up as the above. Latter are those of us who have a couple things they don't: compassion; empathy.

"Lying has become praxis among the MAGA faithful...it's almost as if the more lies they tell, the more real their world seems.

Go big or go home. Once you've crossed the Rubicon and discarded one objective truth, why not discard them all? Why not decorate your fantasy world lavishly?

My brother turned 18 in 1968 and it was either enlist or get drafted, so he enlisted in the Navy. They gave him a lot of tests and discovered he was pretty smart, which nobody in high school ever figured out, so they put him in the nuclear subs based in Hawaii. The lucky SOB spent 8 years in Waikiki.

As a teacher and parent, I've seen this again and again. Kids with authoritarian (or lazy, or abusive) parents keep trying for their love and approval up to the age of about 11. Then they hit a psychological development that enables them to start seeing their parents with a more critical eye. If they decide their parents are shitty, they begin to act out. Both to assert their independence, and to punish and embarrass their parents.

I realised very early that my oldest is very strong willed, and there was no way she'd take My Way or the Highway. So I always gave her as much choice and independence as she could safely handle. When I said "No" I explained the reasons. I listened to her counter arguments and explained why I wasn't accepting them - except for the times when I did, and changed my answer to "yes".

By the time she got to adolescence, she trusted me as a source of good advice and reasonable restrictions. We discussed possible uncomfortable situations she might face re. drugs/alcohol and boys/men, and options for how to handle them. Adult men made her uncomfortable a couple of times, she told me, and we Handled it Together. Nasty breakup with a friend? Handled together. Reconciliation with said friend? HT. Helped support same friend through life-changing injuries? HT. Drama with new boyfriend's family? They're now married.

Adults don't flourish under punitive, authoritarian regimes. Nor do kids.

Sounds like something from dog trainer Victoria Stillwell. She did one case with a 20-year old who was basically cosplaying #Thug Life Chose Me (he was pretty cringey to watch but hey, he was 20). Unfortunately he'd gotten himself a Presa Canario and of course he hadn't neutered it or trained it properly. Victoria was called in by his girlfriend, who was quite reasonably terrified of it.

V was eventually able to persuade him that the enormous dog was more than a cool accessory to his chosen image, but it took a visit to an attack dog training facility. He was rather shaken to witness the power and violence dogs are capable of. Still didn't want to get it neutered, of course. After all, how can one be a Man without flaunting one's dog's testicles?

That's not even touching all those who buy a working dog breed as a family pet, then wonder why it's tearing up their suburban backyard. People suck.
