Sometimes there's an English or Scottish or Irish bit of local color that achieves a degree of unselfconscious comedic brilliance. But no other culture could possibly spawn such a combination of pathos, subcortical appetites, and unrestrained bile that somehow retains an innocence at the same time. We are exceptional, no doubt about it.
