In Jayapal's version at least, the subsidies would use existing Treasury and IRS mechanisms for delivery, but they'd be funded through congressional appropriations, not out of Social Security. And it includes oversight to make sure workers get the funds.

Not sure about Hawley's version, but Jayapal's funds it separately. Can't see it working otherwise.

Jayapal specifies that to get it, companies would have to retain and rehire workers.

Yeah, I trust (most) Democrats to not be stupid/evil about it. I am... less sure about Republicans.

The other thing about this is that since the government is going to be, in effect, paying these employees, the taxes on the profits should be raised so that the money is distributed throughout the community rather than just put into a charter school or whatever the company wants to use to funnel the money.

Yes, that is stupid and obviously wrong. Which may be why I learned about it as a recession tool, to present it in a way that wasn't quite so obviously wrong, back when Republicans and Libertarians tried to at least pretend the things they said had any connection to reality.

Geez it’s like you’re not even listening...they aren’t “sending payments,” they’re “negativizing disincentives.”

Methinks this was cut off just before the bloodshed, to keep it suitable for small children and Wonkers.

I doubt Ivanka's shoe collection is up to Imelda's standards, but otherwise agreed.
