Why is this woman still considered even remotely relevant???

Public Health Announcement - this story has once again attracted strong opinions and feelings - don't read the comments if you need some head space, cos people are getting salty with each other (and there are a few trolling as well)

why is it that the people who complain that 'the system is broken' are always the ones who broke (or benefitted from breaking) that very damn system. Also too, they are the ones that are about to announce some sort of vanity project/campaign/bullshit

I know someone who actually served in government with Jill Stein. He was a member of the Lexington MA School Committee and as such, was a member of several school building reconstruction supervisory committees. The other members of the committees were mostly members of the Lexington Representative Town Meeting. Stein's only elective office was as a member of the town meeting and she was a member of one of the school building committees. She was a disaster.

Whenever she showed up at a committee meeting, nothing was accomplished because it was always about her. She never did the prep work expected of the committee members nor did she ask any intelligent questions of the people managing the project or of the building contractors. She never had any useful advice or suggestions. She treated the committee as an opportunity for self-aggrandizement, not as a community service.

Other than that, she was fine.

I do not understand why this woman’s family hasn't yet staged an intervention and placed her in an institution. Don't they care about her? Can’t they see shes a danger to herself? And a toxic irritant to others?

I just hope Amy Goodwymyn doesn't devote the entire week of Communism Now! before the election to promoting the Shill Stein campaign like she did in 2016. At least she kept that fake green garbage out of the spotlight in 2020.

If there were video, or even audio, of the interactions between Green and West, I would pay a large sum of money to access them.

Because it would be priceless. Talk about a pair of assholes who deserve each other.

i'd love to see a list of what the Green Party (or Jill Stein specifically) has accomplished in the last 8 years.

i'll be using that information to decide how serious they are as people and as a party. i strongly suspect they aren't serious at all and as such their opinions do not matter.

Jill Stein will never in a million years win a presidential election. Yet she still intends to run.

It’s clear from her 2016 run she will only ever be a spoiler as a presidential candidate. The simple fact is there is no third party with the support to reasonably expect they could win the presidential nomination and anyone running third party for president is either dumber than a dummy door knob, has some kind of narcissistic disorder, wants to screw american voters and american allies, has some grift going, or all of the above, just doing putin’s bidding.

The only way we will ever arrive at multiple/ new parties will be if one or both current actual parties implodes, leaving a power vacuum and creating chaos. And if it’s the D party that goes first that will be catastrophic, you can be aure that Republican fascists will solidify their power beyond the power of democracy and that will be game over. Third party candidates running losing bids in the general for president and losing will never bring a third party to power in the US.

Since the 1940s, the two main parties in the US have made it more and more difficult for minor parties to even get on a state-wide ballot, let alone compete on a national level. To blame Clinton's loss in 2016 on Putin (or Jill Stein, or I donno... Vermin Supreme for that matter... gives too much credit to Putin, and not enough credit to voters having agency of their own. I'm sure Putin, like any foreign leader or foreign government (and to say Putin = Russia is probably grossly simplistic), takes an interest in who becomes Pres in the US (as the US does when it comes to the selection of other foreign leaders), but that hardly means anyone rejecting the decisions of the DNC, or RNC, is their "puppet".

There's probably no hope that the United States will ever be a normal country with multiple parties, but the minority parties could at least attract enough support for their "eccentric" issues that they might be worth listening to, or figuring out what it is that they aren't getting from either of the two traditional parties.

There used to be something I think was called "fusion voting" where a third party would swing its membership behind one of the major party candidates in exchange for influence. Something like that might be healthy.

Expand full comment

good lord.

we don't have a multi party system / parliamentary system. there is no path in our current system for 'minor parties'. it may suck but it means 'minor parties' are spoilers. how do people not understand this?

and for sure there is much evidence to suggest jill stein - leaving aside the fact that she's a russian stooge AND a piece of shit - did in fact draw critical votes from hillary in key states.

sorry but her voters - much like ralph nadar's - are complicit.

what "grossly simplistic"? We can, no doubt, agree that Putin runs an authoritarian regime. He is a product of years in an organization for spying on the citizenry, as well as making trouble elsewhere in the world. Do you think for one minute that any major interaction with any major power, whether by a state agency or a private one (as far as you can call any business within the oligarchy "private", since displeasing Putin can get your assets seized and your life terminated) does not at least have to pass review by President Putin, if it is not at his personal direction. Think of how the Mafia was run, or Nazi Germany- either its okay with the boss or you'd better not do it.

Look you obviously are clueless. Vlad fucked with our 2016 election, and Stein was part of that. Also fuck third parties that do nothing except a dog and pony show every 4 years

Expand full comment

What have the third parties done to earn votes? What grassroots have they built up? How have they improved anyone's lives in any way?

Where is the work they put in to be seen as legitimate, serious candidates and not the collection of cranks and grifters they are?

Showing up every four years to display malicious intent mixed with incompetence is not a winning strategy.

Which laws are the two main parties using to deny access at the state or federal level?

Expand full comment

Most of that energy gets wasted in jumping through all the hoops to get ballot access. ("Somehow", the Ds and Rs do not have to go through the same hoops.)

Expand full comment

Filing some paperwork? Paying a filing fee? Having voters that want you on the ballot?

What hoops?

Every four years the Greens get tossed off a few state ballots because they filed late, or filed the wrong paperwork. Is that a conspiracy or is that the Greens don't bother to keep anyone on staff who knows what they're doing and have the institutional memory of a goldfish? If they fail at that first hoop are they a serious party?

They fail to gather enough valid signatures to get on ballots. They can't raise the most basic filing fees let alone enough to run a campaign. Is that a conspiracy or are they just not popular with voters?

Her own campaign website has the latest news dated 7 July.

There's no conspiracy involved, even she's not even talking about her campaign.

That could be why.

Expand full comment

Williamson's campaign staff are fleeing in disgust. Three campaign managers in five months. Staff says that she doesn't listen to anyone and is abusive with episodes of "foaming, spitting, uncontrollable rage," although she denies these accusations, saying that nevertheless "can be a bitch at the office at times." Theories that the entire thing is just to get publicity for her books. For example, "A group of seven former staffers wrote a letter, first reported in August by Jenn Dize, ... alleging that Williamson’s own management style is causing her campaign to fail. 'Based on our observations and our interactions with her, Marianne Williamson has demonstrated no intention of becoming president, no strategy to win this election, and no ability to effectively lead this country or follow through on her progressive platform,' the letter said."

Also, her campaign is deeply in debt, spending more than it's bringing in.
