I am from virginia which stayed sane until recently. And then, like NC started going off the rails. I am in Georgia, but the atl, which gives me a certain buffer. But it's the same thing. Over the last couple of years, the press is on. The funny part is that I always considered NC far superior to Ga. And it's like. ... no! We are losing the new lights of the south! !!

Not to excuse that hideous amendment and the a-holes that voted for it, but voter turnout in that election was about 35%. (I'm in NC.) The Republicans in the state legislature kept crowing about the 61% "of North Carolinians" that voted to ban same-sex marriage, but always conveniently left out the fact that it was 61% of 35% of voters.

When your attorney general shoves your shiny new law up your ass, it's time to rethink your "plan."

Logic and defense of citizens' rights under the Constitution sound so weird coming from a North Carolina state official, but I'll take it.

I voted from him in the primary and look forward to voting for him in the general!

I also read he vetoed one of those religious freedom bills this week. Sadly in Fla. we have an asshole governor AND legislature.

I was living in NC at the time as well, and was NC's biggest apologist. It seemed pretty important to go vote.

The GOP stoked up the rural evangelicals in an off year by putting No Gay Marriage on the ballot. Took over the legislature. I live in NC part time, and I'm horrified by what's happened.

Oh, without a doubt - there was no excuse for not voting in that election. The Republicans were smart enough (well, they're smart about being terrible human beings, not smart in general) to put the amendment on the ballot in the May primary and not the general election, knowing that turnout would be lower. And that's the fault of people historically voting in lower numbers during primaries.

I was more making the point that McCrory was implying that the entire state voted for that amendment, because he's an asshole.
