Linc was appointed to finish his just-departed father's term. He was described by associates as being rather unprepared at the time, and he has admitted as much. (Yet he was in the midst of preparing a run for the seat because John Chafee was retiring.) Reportedly after some initial stumbles he quickly got up to speed and grew into the job. Rhode Island saw potential in him, even though his first days following his sudden elevation were a bit ragged; he won the Senate seat outright the following year.
The United States actually *is* on the metric system, and has been for quite some time. The problem is that there is no mandate or requirement to drop the traditional system. The metric system is taught in all of our schools and nearly every American is at least acquainted with it, if not more proficient with it than they realize.

OT:Just now watching the dem debate and bernie is killing it. I love this man. Hes the only one who knows what hes talking about. Eveybody on that stage aside from bernie is doing their best to remember the notes that their homework people gave them. Bernie isnt trying to remember homework notes because he did his homework. Theyre all trying to argue from a position that may not know the intricate details.Bern is genuine. Not only is he genuine but he gives credit to the others on stage and is bringing them together.
