We were just getting to that point where the South was about to abjure the Confederacy and Donald Trump was about to take out a full-page ad in the NYT repudiating his previous full-page ad calling for the death penalty of the Central Park Five when Obama came along and fucked it all up!

She's a former student of mine!

In a giant class. I think I spoke to her maybe once.

Mr. D'Souza never did take astronomy, I think.

1. Stop funneling money to vouchers and charter schools.

1a. Charter schools were supposed to be places where new ideas could be tried without having to deal with some of the normal public school regulations. They should be required to document what things they're doing differently, why, and to what degree they actually improved things. If an idea from a charter actually helped, it should be rolled out in normal public schools; if after a reasonable timeframe, no benefit was found, then you discontinue that experiment and try something else.

In other words, charters are supposed to pushing pedagogy forward, and real improvements should become the new norm. But how often does that actually happen?

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I was lucky enough to have had "that one teacher"... almost every year of my junior-high and high-school education. Some years, more than one of them. And now, I have several teachers in my extended family.

So, I have a greater-than-your-average-childless-person appreciation for teachers. Thank you for helping make things better, one class and one student at a time.

Wasn't he a National Honor Society Runner-Up? To me he just looks that way. She looks so different from how she looked in school I'm sure it's hard to say.

Just as the Democrats asked for money to secure every consulate and embassy around the world in every budget and that money was always scratched and then BENGHAZI. But not a word about that money from Democrats, why??? and so it was with every disaster large and small-- we could should have been prepared for but were not and somebody from some state would be yelling at Barack Obama how he was criminally inept!! So Laura Ingram's position-- what is it? Is it that these things can't be fixed so she jeers at Democrats who speak as if they can be? Like jeering, "well if you're so great why didn't you fix Baltimore when you had the chance?" As if a healthy Baltimore instead of a rundown Baltimore was of zero interest to her. She's a cow.

No snark. How do you handle segregation within public schools? I went to a public high school in one of the 10 wealthiest counties nationwide. There was a decent sized black population, since I was in the south, but if you looked at things like the IB program or most of the non-sports extracurriculars, you'd never realize it. And I took a regular English course one year that was so different from the honors classes it could practically have been taught at another school.

I'm not in education. I wonder how prevalent that situation is, especially in the south. And it's even worse for a black parent who might have sacrificed to get their kid into this school, which is very highly ranked, if they're segregated within their own school.
