The problem is that, left to their own devices, the GOP are eventually going to cave to the MAGA morons and stick us with a radical whackjob Speaker. I'd rather see the Dems back a moderate Republican than wait for the whackjob, or, just as terrible, a Quevin who owes a truckload of favors to the worst elements of the GOP. We'd get two years of Benghazi!!!-style lunacy while they "investigate" everybody who's ever said a word against Trump and his mobsters, and stage shambolic impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden. The nation's high-priority project will be Hunter Biden's Laptop™.

" I'd rather see the Dems back a moderate Republican than wait for the whackjob". There are no moderate Republicans - there are only whackjobs and wackier jobs!😵.

They got praise for being anti-coup but that doesn't justify putting either in charge. Remember, Jeffries also was anti-coup!

Let the rethugs give him 6 votes if they want a consensus candidate. He’s gotten more than Qevin has on any ballot.

Trying to "both sides" this is the epitome of reckless journalism, but this is par for the course these days.

How about someone from outside the House who is truly apolitical? Someone who will just come in for two years and try to force both sides to govern, instead of playing political games? (I fully acknowledge that the Dems already want to govern, but we’ve got to spin it for the rubes). Some random political science professor, or one of the House custodial staff who’s worked there for the last 40 years and seen some shit…

Grift and greed. Yep. And not a shred of competent governance in the bunch.
