To be sure, my nana would soothe a baby's gums, when teething, with swiping a bit on with her finger.

Wasn't a whole shot though, just a few drops.

When my mom found out she was appropriately horrified, and nana was all...well, I did it for my kids (cause everyone did way back when. No wonder the kid went right to sleep! Also less surprising that old grave yards are filled with "infants" isn't it?)

Looking forward to more gripe water reporting. I've only ever seen it in Jamaican grocery stores, so maybe it's a British colonial thing originally?

I came in 5th at a charity poker tourney. I don't know how to play, and everyone was very helpful. Mr won the raffle, $150.00.

Also, if you start this at the second sign for Lost Trail Pass, and keep your foot in it?

the song ends at the top of the pass

The last time I drove Lost Trail Pass, the top was still dirt.

Shit fire, I just read that Margaret Hamilton has died!

Biff52 Lost Canadian's avatar

She made it to 90, not too bad.

PaulDietzel's avatar

The only Margaret Hamilton ("Wicked Witch") that I know, according to my Wiki, died in 1985. Is there another Margaret Hamilton that I don't know about?

"Shit fire"? West Virginia?

We know it's not healthy for us. I've been getting B.P. readings upward of 150 again, lately.

InMyRoom's avatar

Might want to see a Dr about the high BP readings.

Hugs. I have sometimes high BP readings too.

Well heck.

Datgummit, quit with the swearing in here.

there are kids that might hear it.

You should have been in bed at 7:30 PM as I was when I was six or seven years old.

The movie is over if you'd like to join us there for OT.

It wasn't that long ago that kids were given "small beer" to drink. It was safer than drinking water or milk.

"I’ve heard of old-timey people rubbing whiskey on a baby’s gums"

That totally happened to me, but I'm 61 and my youngest sib of the 3 of us is 58. At that time there were no warnings against pregnant humans not drinking or smoking (yes I left sex as ambiguous, that's how I roll).

When I was diapers at family gatherings the grown ups would hand me their bottles and cans when they were "empty" and I'd drink the dregs. One, and society, lives and you learn

Hops: grrr mad's avatar

Babies should never be given gum in the first place.

That was fantastic!

I saw him do this live in 2020, late fall in Missoula Mt, as snow began to fall.

Yeah, it was fucking perfect.

Saw Robert Plant a couple weeks back and he played a version of this (and also one lady in his band sang “Orphan “). He puts on a great show.

I put up a link to Orphan down below. A very good cover.

Hopium, be the death of me

Hopium, it's my wife and it's my life, haha

. . .

Because when the smack begins to flow

I really don't care anymore

About all the Jim-Jims in this town

And all the politicians makin' crazy sounds

And everybody puttin' everybody else down

Funny (now) story: I have an older brother and when we were growing up I'd borrow his LPs and play them in my room. One day I was playing a Velvet Underground album and the song 'Heroin' came on. I guess my father was walking by (or listening at?) my closed bedroom door. He came in, not saying a word, and took the vinyl LP off the turntable and smashed it repeatedly against a table until the LP broke into fragments. And I don't recall it ever being discussed. It may have been but I have no memory of it. I don't even recall my brother being angry about it. Yeah.

My volunteer group and I were talking about where we were on 9/11 and then we got into the topic of where were you turning the OKC bombing and the group is so young that only three of us were really able to remember it, and of those, only I was living in OKC. I described the day. "It was an ice cold April morning because it was before climate change, mornings in April here used to be really cold." Climate change has become so real to me after this summer. This was the first summer of my life when I could not physically be outside because it was so hot. For ten years we have had record heat. How much hotter is it going to get, nevermind extreme the weather with it. The wind blows like it never has, and it's always windy here.

gallbladder's avatar

I have to remark--if you will allow me--that to attach such an act to the matter of climate truly speaks to the significance of both.

I remember snow in Tulsa in April in 2017 and 2018, and last two year were years without a winter.

I sent the Mr out as my surrogate for a girl's day at the dog bar today, because I really didn't have more interaction energy in me. He's got the same stories as I do, anyway.

So, a chick we've known for years was there scowling at the Mr while he was hanging out at a table full of broads, but they're all my friends! Lol!

Thanks for caring, Cindy!

BillEGoatSmile's avatar

I'm giggling at this...back in the day when Mr. Goat was sane and personable and could hold his own and then some...putting him in a room with my BFF crowd? They could still eat him alive!

LOL

Smoke O'Possum's avatar

The Mr is eminently portable and charming, and I'm happy to send him out to share his good guy (mostly) input with my friends who don't get to dish around a really decent guy. He's a hoot.

On our first date he told me he was in sales and had no idea why...that's when I fell in love.

BillEGoatSmile's avatar

Yep. Mr. Goat was a funny bastard 20 years ago (but 'tough guy', so to speak) and led me down the garden path with that! Laughing is important!

There are still moments of that.

We were hoping to do an East Coast tour this summer, but it didn't work out. Next summer, though, if the stars align and we rope-in the monsters 🤞

Well I went to replace the seat belt on my car because the old one was fraying too badly. Welp, I got 99 percent finished with the job, which took a few hours in the dark and rain. Then I discovered the part they sent me from eBay is no way compatible with my car on the buckle end. Tomorrow I will spend some quality time undoing all the work I did this evening, and reinstalling my frayed seat belt until I can get the correct product, which is ridiculously hard to find, even considering it is a 25 year old car. And no I am not going to spend $965 for a new Honda belt assembly with the parts I do not need, I will probably get a used belt.

nodak. where's the beef?'s avatar

huh...when the seatbelt failed in my old Maxima, it was covered at the dealership at no cost...

Birb-General of the US's avatar

Honda has the same policy, but honestly it is such a minor repair I was hoping to take care of it myself.

nodak. where's the beef?'s avatar

sometimes it's better to do it for free at the dealership.
