You ought to take a look at her political pedigree. She's Polly Noonan's Granddaughter, tightly connected to upstate Democrats. Underestimate her at your own peril.

How about survival of the species? Climate change and other unsustainable processes threaten our very existence. We need people in office who will acknowledge this and do something about it. It won't be GOP politicians, and it won't be Democratic or other politicians if they are not elected.

So, you can join the global warming denialists, and watch your city wash away in a toxic flood, while keeping warm in the knowledge that you have remained pure in heart.

Also, too, it would be nice if we minimized the wars. After two thirds of a century, I'm getting tired of them. But voting for an impurely funded politician would be too high a price to pay to stop blowing up browns and their stuff, I guess.

You make is sound like climate change legislation isn't wholly being thwarted by the political spending of the oil and gas industry. As if Jim Inhofe would be a total moron on climate change if he didn't have a financial interest in being a total moron on climate change.

War has an industrial constituency, which also spends, in large numbers, on political advocacy.

The point I continue to make, that no one here seems to understand, is that campaign financing, and the sources of financing that politicians are willing to accept, force politiicans to support legislation that is counter to the interests of their voters all the time. Gillibrand is not immune.

The voters can, if we're conscious, make taking donations from noxious organizations a political liability, rather than an asset. If the electorate determined that politicians who get sponsored from Exxon, like Inhofe, or payday lenders, like DWS, or GS, like Gillibrand, are no longer qualified for our votes, you'd see the power of those organizations decrease significantly.

But as long as both sides are taking these donations, there is no one for us to turn to.

One of the first things a citizen of the modern and postmodern and postquantum world learns is the effective and judicious use of the word "fuck" and its related conjugates "fuck you", "fuck me!", "fuck off", "I'm fucked", "you're fucked", "what's your fucking problem?", "you stupid fuck", "go fuck yourself", "fuck that fucker", "what the fuck?", "get fucked", "fuck her/him", get the fuck off her/him, dude/bitch (rare). (list not exhaustive)Those Wonketeers among us who see deeply into things, real and imagined, can trust Gillibrand not to engage in deceit or pretense, simply by her artistic, intuitive use of the word that shook the world, once upon a time.

or, maybe the core problem is, you have no clue what a serious, adult game it is, not to be left in the hands petulant purity amateurs

There it is again... The "purity" epithet. It's like a calling card for fake-progressives trying to sound urbane and sophisticated.

Like, oh, you just don't understand how the world works, dumbass. We need to be just as corrupt as the Republicans in order to win, and then not get anything done because of how corrupted we've become.

Here's an idea. Get your money from organizations that support your agenda, rather than getting the bulk of your cash from organizations trying to undermine it?

Many people (myself included) can see that Kirsten-Not-Kristen is an excellent senator and represents her constituency and all Americans admirably. She has a problem, however, that will deter from achieving a higher office. Have you ever listened to her? She has the voice of a high school cheerleader. Is that a shallow, silly way to judge a fellow human? Of course. But think about it and you will realize that American voters reject candidates for shallow, silly reasons. If you don't believe me, think about our most recent presidential election. Millions of voters chose a person they KNEW was a sexual predator, a charlatan, and a crook because that was better than a person who scolded them like their mommy and doesn't bake cookies. Sen. Gillibrand's problem can be corrected, but she needs to recognize that her intelligence, talent, and empathy aren't enough to get her a VP slot, let alone a spot at the top of the Democratic ticket.

They're already gearing up to tear our people apart. Just watching them go after Susan Rice is their greatest hits. Hillary was most vulnerable to them, mostly because she came from an older age when people could still whine about her not being enough of a lady.
