Because I'm pretty sure that pissing off most of your league's players, a Hall-of-Famer who now owns a franchise, another who has spent his entire post-baskeball career doing minority outreach and support, and a fair number of your own fanbase to protect an owner who on a good day is more tolerable than pond scum is not what we would call a "winning strategy".
