About that "Prayer Breakfast"

"Founded in 1953, The National Prayer Breakfast was explicitly created to dedicate the U.S. to a conservative evangelical Jesus. The group behind it didn't register as lobbyists because, they believed, they could be more effective if "invisible." Their damn word."

Let us pray:

Dear Lord, save us from your followers.

Amen.

I shall never, ever accept Jesus as Messiah. He may have been an extraordinary rabbi (if he even was ever alive), but these Dominionists will never take over my life. My life is my own, and entwined with that of my fiancé. Yes, we're having a rabbi marry us, but she's a lesbian social justice warrior.

was “what you get when you eject God from the courts and from the schools.”

I really want some these jokers to understand that if civil authorities can eject God from schools (and courtrooms, that’s a new one to me), then their God is not very powerful and they need a more powerful deity to worship.

They don't really mean "Christian"

They mean "dominionist" -- as in "dominion over"

Or white supremacy.

Or any variation of the specific brand of Christian nationalism that has been weaponized and used to justify white supremacy since the beginning of America history."

More likely he has a computer chock full of kiddie porn just like Josh Duggar (who also had Covenant Eyes on his computer).

Besides all these flaws noted he also isn't very intelligent or educated. This may seem like a minor point but there is NO Chinese language any more than there is an American language. "Why is the DOJ letting this happen?"

That's the question, isn't it?

I don't ... here's what I don't understand. Merrick Garland is a descendant of Holocaust survivors. He is, however, ALSO a member of the Federalist Society.

I could say a whole lot more about how slow the FBI and DOJ were to prosecute the white supremacist insurrectionists from January 6th, how paltry the sentences were that they served when there are Black people in federal jails for possession serving multi-decade sentences, how the 80s "War on Drugs" was a ruse for the CIA to pump addictive drugs into low-income minority-populated neighborhoods, how disparate the sentencing guidelines are for crack and for powder cocaine, and how the insurrectionists' Congressional co-conspirators are STILL not prosecuted ... but the FBI has files on files on so-called "Black Extremists" and they're surveilling PEACEFUL Black Lives Matter activists.

But the thing I know at the end of the day is regardless of how many white supremacist terrorist co-conspirators there are who are working for the FBI slowing down the white supremacist terrorist prosecutions ... at the end of the day, the U.S. Attorney General is the one in charge.

So WHERE IS HE AT?

Your last question is well taken. Garland can rightly be criticized for the manner in which the 1/6 and Trump documents cases are being prosecuted. But I know that Leonard Leo, the big cajuna of the Federalist Society, was largely responsible for the strategy that stalled out Garland's nomination to the SCOTUS. Garland HAS contributed written commentary for their magazine and participated in panel presentations at meeting in DC but, I feel very safe in saying, Garland is not a FS member.

Why were Abbott and DeathSantis not prosecuted for kidnapping for human trafficking across state lines pursuant to both duress and false pretenses?

Why is there no federal injunction that's been issued to stop him from doing this?

And as long as we're on the topic -- why has the TX National Guard not been federalized?

Those are ALL importand questions. Here is the model jury instruction used for the charge. I don't see how their conduct doesn't fit, especially Abbott, he proudly and arrogantly admits he did it.

17.1 Kidnapping—Interstate Transportation (18 U.S.C. § 1201(a)(1))

The defendant is charged in [Count _______ of] the indictment with kidnapping in violation of Section 1201(a)(1) of Title 18 of the United States Code. For the defendant to be found guilty of that charge, the government must prove each of the following elements beyond a reasonable doubt:

First, the defendant [seized] [confined] [inveigled] [decoyed] [kidnapped] [abducted] [carried away] [name of kidnapped person];

Second, the defendant [held] [detained] [name of kidnapped person] against [his][her] will; and

[Third, the defendant intentionally transported [name of kidnapped person] across state lines]

or

[Third, the defendant [traveled in [interstate][foreign] commerce] [used the mail [in committing] [in furtherance of] the offense] [used any [means] [facility] [instrumentality]

of [interstate][foreign] commerce in [committing] [furtherance of committing] the offense].

[The government is not required to prove that the defendant kidnapped [name of kidnapped person] for reward or ransom, or for any other purpose.]

[The fact that [name of kidnapped person] [may have] initially voluntarily accompanied the defendant does not necessarily [prevent the occurrence] [negate the existence] of a later kidnapping.]

I'm going to guess you're not currently working for the DOJ but -- I'm not looking for people necessarily to agree with me (or even with whom to argue).

I'm looking for someone who has the current authority to prosecute to answer the question.

Because right now -- especially in context, when DOJ resources are being deployed to "investigate" Cori Bush like they were wasted "investigating" Jamaal Bowman and "investigating" Andrew Gillum -- I can't imagine you're missing the point of what this looks like

https://twitter.com/michaelharriot/status/1753254766770045039

but even worse -- it looks like Weimar Republic laissez faire in the face of the advance of the Nazis, and everyone here knows (or should know) how that ended up.

The entire idea of the National Prayer Breakfast is just using peer pressure and potential for faux outrage to intimidate lawmakers from genuflecting before the rightwing jesus. It happens any place there is public prayer that is not a church. I teach at a private law school where events are often started with a prayer and we're asked to bow our heads. I don't do that as I am not a Christian. Sometimes I get disapproving looks from others--the idea is even as a nonbeliever I should partake in these rituals for the sake of their comfort (the comfort of me and other non-Christians is beside the point). But my job is safe and I'm unlikely to be vilified on Fox.

All of this to say, rightwing christians use Jesus as a cudgel, which seems the opposite of his message. And that's a shameful thing to do to a nice Jewish boy.
