Oh cool! I didn't know she'd made an appearance in that.

Lionel “8647” Hutz's avatar

She had an amazing career, and was still hoofing it late into life.

Truly an amazing dancer.

And give it to Janet to gather some greats in that video. Between Cyd and Cab, it is as good as it gets.

Martini Glambassador's avatar

I agree, great video with excellent cameos.

Singing in the Rain is one of the greatest movies of all time. I will die on that hill.

Menotsure's avatar

The melding of serious dance and film has become something of a lost art. Cyd Charisse was a beautiful practitioner of it.

Oh ...and more than a little sexy!

As always, thanks

Lascauxcaveman's avatar

Perhaps the best combo of a sexy/funny dance routine ever filmed.

Thalia Is Not Amused's avatar

I absolutely adore how she returns Gene's hat to him!

Menotsure's avatar

The hat alone conveys a kind if geekiness in his dance character that plays off of her literally smokin' looks.

I'm a leg man, and Cyd Charisse, she gots them.

Hubba hubba Cyd Charisse!

tehbaddr's avatar

She's no Liza, but she sure is a looker!

Richard Von Busack's avatar

The one and only Cyd Charisse and her five miles of legs. A day that starts out with her is bound to be flawless

I could watch Gene Kelly dance, all day. And this is one of my favorite movies - my favorite dance routine being "Moses Supposes." Thanks for this, this morning!

avidlurker's avatar

I feel the same way about Kelly. He just blows me away and I’m not even a guy who normally pays much attention or cares about dancing.

Donald O’Connor’s “Make ‘em Laugh” is also amazing.

Check out the gams on that broad!

I think it is spelled dat broad

Like Parcheesi?

tehbaddr's avatar

Heh, that was auto correct, that I "corrected"!

Suzie Greenburg's avatar

Brilliant. I think this is from the "Fantasie" portion of the show, dancing for dancing's sake. Love it.

Gene Kelly? YINZER REPRESENT!

It's a known fact, proven in a court of law, that, at any given moment, The Best Movie Ever Made is either 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘢, or 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯' 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘢𝘪𝘯.

Babe Paley's avatar

It's actually "The Third Man".

Zyxomma's avatar

No. That fucking zither soundtrack is SO distracting and annoying. Never.

Babe Paley's avatar

But the scene when Joseph Cotten goes to her place is so romantic! And the last shot is the best thing ever!

Also, I have a huge crush on Orson Welles and Joseph Cotten so I guess that helps...

CambridgeKnitter's avatar

to be shown on the big screen tomorrow night at 7 at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline; I might have to go

Babe Paley's avatar

It's SO good! I would love to see on the big screen!

CambridgeKnitter's avatar

Well, can you make it to Brookline by 7:00 tomorrow night? I'll meet you at the theater and even use my discount to get us a large (or giant or whatever the most gluttonous size is) popcorn. There were still tickets available when I looked.

And, yes, I will be stunned if you or anyone else takes me up on the offer, but I will also be very psyched and will definitely go see the movie.

Wondering Woman's avatar

Most famous for its theme employing a zither.

Resource NW's avatar

Casablanca is more quotable, but both Third Man and it have the best endings.

Richard S's avatar

(starts hearing zither music)

Gotta have a Shakespeare adaptation in the top four movies of all time. So it's either that or She's The Man.

He's one of my favorite dancers and it blows my mind that he didn't do a lot of dancing with Fred Astaire (though I already know theire styles are quite different, etc.).

Hey c'mon! That's Cyd Charisse! I think it's appropriate to exclaim ecstatically HUBBA HUBBA!!!

Not a fan of that Berlin Airport Podcast; politically it is at best uninformed and at worst slanting right; they also get a lot of the details and actual issues wrong.

Emil Muz's avatar

You and I must've listened from a different point of view. I took most of their jibes at social democracy and extolling capitalism as sarcasm.

I'd be fascinated to hear you explain why it took 13 years to complete and a 25 words or less summary of one specific thing that was incorrect.

ExpatInNewYork's avatar

Mostly the trope that poor left behind people in the east vote AfD when this is nation-wide and especially prevalent among people who are quite well off. As to the airport, details that make it worse rather than better (how the Frankfurt airport operator was involved, hilarious software issues and gross incompetence by the architect who managed to create a layout that is incapable of handling new plane types and new airlines)

Fun fact about Nicole Shanahan: she had an affair with Elon Musk which apparently ended her marriage.

So whenever you see her now, you will be picturing her fucking Muskrat.

Emil Muz's avatar

Someone should be constantly reminding her of that, every day. I think it says a lot about her judgement.

CambridgeKnitter's avatar

not even a tiny bit fun if you ask me

"M"'s avatar

Not a bit

But not only does it make more sense now that that Brillo-voiced Kennedy stepchild picked her -- but it also seems like Melon Husk (whom I wish the Pentagon would tell to get the HELL OUT) is hedging his bets

So gross, though

If someone was going to have an affair with someone, why would you pick a something instead?

Coeur d’Alene used to be ranked among the best places to live, no doubt because it was pretty much lily-white.

The Missouri AG's office constantly libels people. They libeled me when then-AG Eric Schmitt called a press conference and called me a murderer and read filthy lies about me from my (unverified) psycho cousin's statement. He then printed the same in a press release. This was blatant libel, slander and defamation of character, prosecutorial misconduct, and a violation of prosecutorial ethics.

Now AG Bailey is slandering the Hazelwood School district. He also slandered a St. Louis Post-Dispatch journalist. They do it all the time.

CA Court Dropkicks Elon Musk Trollsuit

Yesterday, a federal judge in California dismissed Twitter’s trollsuit against the non-profit Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) for the tort of saying mean, true things about the company under Elon Musk’s leadership.*

The ruling was utterly scathing, striking the complaint under the state’s anti-SLAPP law and reading the company for filth.

Sometimes it is unclear what is driving a litigation, and only by reading between the lines of a complaint can one attempt to surmise a plaintiff’s true purpose. Other times, a complaint is so unabashedly and vociferously about one thing that there can be no mistaking that purpose. This case represents the latter circumstance. This case is about punishing the Defendants for their speech.

I don't regret leaving you, Coeur d’Alene. I think I managed to live there during that magical moment after they'd driven out the white supremacists in Hayden and before they decided to let all the (relatively) minor racists come crawling back from the surrounding hills to Make CDA Racist As Fuck Again (MCRAFA? I suppose it makes as much sense as MAGA).
