Yup. He was, to me, mysterious like Rush Limbaugh only I was much younger then. He appeared in that famous Louis Nizer book, being sued by a great, innocent guy for defamation. Asking my father about him on the phone-- so appalled-- he broke in with that statement. I doubt if he cared one way or the other, now I think about it.

My father told me we wanted somebody reliable-- I mean reliably compliant with us-- bc of the Russians and we overthrew him and he was moderate. Maybe he said that because he was between those two groups. Of course when I say he was elected I didn't mean it was a situation like the US. But it was an election-- they overthrew him? I thought the modernization the fundamentalists hated so much came about during the Shah. I thought my father was never wrong since he spent so much time reading a million books. That Shah what a weenie-- how he ran away. What a fool and what a monster. I'd rather be plagued by problems and look like an angry sofa any day than give a huge party for rich freaks in the desert and dress up my ugly face and frown importantly. Surely it's us who installed him?Is my memory correct that Aristotle Onassis offered to trade places with him, to solve the hostage situation?

"My father told me we wanted somebody reliable-- I mean reliably compliant with us-- bc of the Russians and we overthrew him and he was moderate" The British secret service wanted him overthrown because he nationalized BP's oil wells. The British government, however, was of the opinion that he would collapse by himself if left alone. So British agents fed the US (our CIA was fairly new and did not have much in the way of sources of its own yet; Teheran station chief was Eliot Roosevelt, of the Teddy rather than the Franklin branch, appointed for political reasons not expertise in the region) info that Mossadegh was going to side with the Tudeh and purge the Ulema to create a Stalinist state, when he appeared to have been leaning the other way (but creating a hard-line Islamic state would also have been destabilizing)."But it was an election-- they overthrew him?" He was chosen Prime Minister by the Parliament ("Majlis"), but then dissolved Parliament saying too many members were bribed by the British (doubtless true), and held a referendum on whether he should be allowed to rule by decree. The relative powers of the Shah and the Majlis were ambiguous under the constitution (forced on a previous Shah during the 1905 wave of revolutions, which also created the Duma in Russia, a similarly ambiguous Parliament). The army was unhappy with him, regarding this as a coup. We encouraged the counter-coup, but it is revisionist to pretend that it was not Iranians who carried it out."I thought the modernization the fundamentalists hated so much came about during the Shah." The fundamentalists have hated the modern world since the 19th century.

In Yahootah, we've always (at least since 1847) had the Barnum Young Taliban.

So we didn't pluck the Shah I know about from a remote part of the Shah family and stick him on the throne? How do you know such minute history of this, if I may ask the question. Aren't you also the man who understood about Judge Gohmert?

I had a crush on Sadat. I admit it. He used to say, re the Ayatollah, "He is a lu-NA-tic! A lu-NA-tic!" It could be those very words that got him killed, tho I never thought of that before.

"So we didn't pluck the Shah I know about from a remote part of the Shah family and stick him on the throne?" No. He'd been the Shah since 1941, when the British and Russians made his father abdicate for siding with the Germans.

Ron Johnson is also my Senator. I would tell him to go fuck himself, but my conscience won't allow me to wish that on anyone.

That being said, it's my opinion that TrumpHumpers and other Q sized MAGAts should be allowed all the Horsey paste they can shoot, snort, fuk or hog swallow. Let the hord's have at it. Heheheh. If nothing else call it an experiment in stupidity. TrumpHumpers are the new standard for stupid lol. Now let them prove it.

Hm! Well now, I've been thinking about my father too. He's also the man who told me Westbrook Pegler was a great American.
