I’ve seen that photo before. Something about the stare, the look in their eyes. It’s the same for each one. Is it a steely gaze of kids who know life is simply hard? Is it kids forced to act like adults, bearing an unfair burden of working hard enough to help support their families? There is a certain grave feature to their expressions. There is nothing playful or innocent or childlike about that stare. I wonder, did each grow old? Escape poverty? Find joy, peace of mind and die surrounded by family?
"...said he filed the bill in part because children want to work without having to take lunch breaks."
"Wilder said his businesses will continue to offer meal breaks to minors, as he believes they would quit otherwise."
But you said they didn't want to take the lunch breaks. Which is it?!? 'Cause it can't be both.
"He argued that the free market will ensure workers are treated fairly."
The free market will do no such thing. It never has without being forced to by regulations. It is not good to be so pig fucking ignorant about labor history in this country, Mr Wilder. Educate yourself, you dumbfuck. People died to get workers the right to be treated like human beings. ASSHOLE.
It must be the pure Republican hatred of "regulations" that leads to this because what is wrong with requiring employers to give their employees a lunch break? It's laws preventing local authorities from mandating water and cooling off breaks for working out in the summer sun. It's so against common sense you have to wonder why they do it.
Some state legislature shitmuffin in a mountain state pushed one of these bills that would allow kids to work longer hours. Wouldn't you know it, the guy owned a big ski resort that employed a lot of kids.
“The wording is ‘We’re here to harm children.’ Give me a break," he said. "These are young adults.”
Oh fuck all the way off. Holy shit, this is comic book-level villainy. It's already bad enough a bunch of red states are rolling back child labor protections, but not giving them a lunch break too? As in, time to eat during an 8-hour shift? It makes me want to scream that these disgusting fucking assholes feel comfortable enough to propose (and pass!) absolutely heinous bills like this. I also guaran-fucking-tee that his kids won't be working in his shitty stores for minimum wage and no meal breaks. It is always the "other" people's kids who will suffer and that is by design.
Just like with the abortion law in Arizona, they aren't even pretending anymore about wanting to drag us back to the 1860s. I know it's been said countless times before, but cruelty is the entire fucking point with these people.
Sorry for the rant but holy fucking shit this is evil.
To be fair, knowing how these greedy sociopaths work, I bet that a lot of the kids to be affected by this legislation currently get their pay docked for the lunch break without actually receiving one.
As usual, Gary does such a great job laying out the common-sense response to Republican idiocy, with lethal humor, that there's nothing to do in the way of a non-comment except nitpick.
So:

I personally don't find that as jarring as the Manfred Man in extra innings. But then I never much liked watching pitchers try to hit.
If you thought the GOP was only kidding, this ought to tell you they mean every insane thing they say.
They want a dictator because they will never win another election if they actually make these things happen.
Slavery is capitalism in its purest form.

I wonder if this guy thinks that teenagers should be able to vote. Since they're such good decision makers after all.

Is it because it's a long exposure camera and they had to hold still?
Sound theory. Still unsettling and penetrating.

He's not ignorant. He's a goddamn zillionaire SOCIOPATH. He fucking KNOWS.

We need MORE rants like yours, not fewer.
don't be sorry!
Oy, Gevalt.
The Louisiana state government is a cruel joke. The new first time Governor is an old Sheriff and a hard right Trumper eager to prove his insanity.
I live in Louisiana. Our debutantes don't want drive-thru Apple Kiwi Kale Smoothies. They want drive-thru daiquiris.
To be fair, knowing how these greedy sociopaths work, I bet that a lot of the kids to be affected by this legislation currently get their pay docked for the lunch break without actually receiving one.
Or the cost of a smoothie automatically withdrawn from their paycheck even if they haven't had one.
Waffle House, anyone?
Let the guy name a stadium after his company and he thinks he's the Emperor of Louisiana....

I'm thinking more along the lines of John Waters, but to each his own.
