Why would Brazil (or any Latin American nation) be expected to take sides in a European conflict? And for that matter, the Russians are much less an existential threat to people here than the Ukraine's #1 supporter, the USA.

"Behave himself"... WTF! Since when do people in the USA have any right to tell other nation's leaders what is, and isn't, in the interests of their own people? Gawd! You echo that great American racist, Woodrow Wilson, who intervened in Mexico in 1916 because "We must teach them to elect good men."

I agree with what you have written, with one tiny quibble. Canada and Russia both have massive forests, but no one says much about preserving them... it might give the "west" a bit more credibility if they also focused on preserving those from exploitation as opposed to just those in the "less developed" nations like Brazil and Congo.

I donno. But what does the US party have to do with Brazil? They're different countries with different political histories and traditions.

Hey, I'm just trying to outline the way Brazilians see this. As it is them who will be deciding the fate of the Amazon, that might be something an intelligent person would want to know. Guess that leaves you out. Enjoy your moral superiority and your irrelevance.

As I said, feel free to adopt ideological purity over pragmatic action. Because no one cares what you think. No one ever will.

Among the many, many things you don't seem to understand is that the Amazon is largely located inside the national boundaries of Brazil. They are going to do with it what they as a people decide to do. As such, it seems to me that the appropriate action for those of us outside of Brazil is to take actions that make Brazilians want to preserve the Amazon.

You are of course free to dismiss the sentiments of a nation of over 200 million people, but it will only make you more irrelevant than you already are.

You really are lacking even the most rudimentary clue, aren't you. As I said, fine. Stay ignorant and morally superior...and utterly impotent and ineffective. And keep wondering why nobody listens to you. Have a nice life.

Can't help it. I just keep hoping idiots can learn. I'll even help you out with a clue: The first step to making things better is to understand how things are and why.

It was a joke?

Yes, and I thought fairly obviously so.

This isn’t over yet, he hasn’t accepted defeat or handed over the keys to the levers of power. Hopefully he saw what happened here, and that screaming “fraud!” won’t change the outcome. All it did was put $250 million in fake legal funds in Trump’s pocket and create endless news cycles about it. Not worth it.

I’ve read Brazil is very different now than 1984 Brazil. Admittedly, I was reading mostly about the safety of travel to places like Rio. In 1984 Rio was considered a tropical haven. Now, it seems you need to know where to go and not go to remain safe. I went to Acapulco in 1996. Other than getting sick from the water and having polite kids beg for pesos on the beach while making us bracelets, it was ok. The clubs were highly Americanized. Our only misstep was visiting a strip club that was a bit off the grid. They refused to let us leave until we had paid any cash we had. They even told us to return the next day and pay more, but we flew home the next day. I’ve seen very little of the world.

It will be nice to have good Brazil back again.

Bolsonaro has not conceded yet because he is trying to gauge whether he has enough support among the police and military to stage a violent coup. He will soon find that he doesnt.
