I’m not a Swifty, at all. But even I know the Eras Tour is an event nearly everyone, everywhere, has wanted to attend. Easily the biggest tour in ages. People sing, dance and are all happy and coexisting in one place for 3 hours, all over the world.
Is it finally proof that I’m a good person that I’ve never heard the name “Morgan Wallen?” I haven’t read that name, I only listen to oldies radio and I don’t have network tv, I only stream movies. Who is Morgan Wallen? I only know who Jason Aldean is because of the Vegas shooting and his anthem to small town bigotry.
I'm so out of it about red-state culture that I had never heard of Dale Earnhardt until he died, and he genuinely was super-famous. A co-worker said "Did you hear? Dale Earnhardt died!" and of course the only possible response was "Oh, that's too bad," and then I frantically Googled the name.
Like almost every other person on the planet, I've heard of Taylor Swift, but what on earth is a 'Morgan Wallen'? Is it an American thing? Nobody else I've shared this with in my small Canadian town knows either.
I do listen to the radio (country radio even), and I had no idea who he was. I looked through his discography and the only single I even remotely know is one that he did with Florida Georgia Line.
I have to roll my eyes when Laura whines about children going hungry. What has she done to help the cause? I read an article a couple of days ago about Taylor donating to food banks across the country from her Eras tour. None of the food banks will say exactly how much she donated but while reading what they did say, she has donated enough money to feed over 1 million people this year. What is even more interesting is this story was written by Relevant magazine. I had never heard of it but looked it up and it is a Christian online web site. They are just angry because Taylor encouraged her fans to register to vote and over 35,000 did. Young people will not vote for their orange savior so they are trying to obstruct young people from voting.

I'm in NC, I know about these things. I have two pairs of headphones at work (engineering shop), because the consequences of misplacing a pair and not being able to drown out Morgan Wallen are too scary to think about.
I worked for years in a light industrial shop, surrounded by rednecks who all seemed to be cousins of each other. High up on a shelf in the main room was a radio plastered with KKK stickers and perpetually tuned to a country music station and LOUD. It was a relief to go to the back room to use the bandsaw, or to go over to the power shear and use that, to block the whining noise from the radio with the honest noise of metal being cut. To this day, the sound of George Jones' drunken hick voice affects me like the sound of a vacuum cleaner affects a cat.
