How did he get into Fordham? I thought the Jesuits had standards. I assume Fred blackmailed Cardinal Spellman, who was rumored to move in the same social circles as Roy Cohn.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

So it's not just Donald J's branch that is corrupt? Or maybe its just rude to turn down your younger brother's offer of a job you aren't qualified for.

I have a big presentation to do today for a new staffed housing project. The whole building of the thing is not on me. It's on me to explain the staffing. Peer supports and QMHAs with a therapist with a Master's or a PhD on call. And the land we're looking at is a straight shot to the hospital. Five minutes at most with lights and sirens on.

Mesa just voted to buy The Grand Hotel way out in east Mesa to turn into housing

for domestic violence victims, Vets and the elderly. The program works on referrals

from 1st responders. It's going to take about 2 years to get the hotel ready, I'm so relieved that the measure passed.

Wow, that's cool, Chicken! It sounds like a good diverse group of people who can really form a community there!

I'm looking at trying to set up a monthly court out at our big shelter. It's kind of on the way out of town, so it's hard to get from there to court or the public defender's office, or pretrial services. But if I could get someone from the public defender to go out with me, we could have a docket where you could clear up warrants and sign up for a lawyer where you are, and that might help people out some.

That would be fantastic!

There are soooo many old hotels here in Phoenix that are empty,

buying them and turning those rooms into mini apartments for the unhoused is a great idea.

It's getting it past the "neighbors" who cry this will lower their property values.

This is going to give us ~80 rooms !!

Expand full comment

And the argument is fucking ridiculous. They will probably have support workers swarming the place, so it will be the safest place in five miles.

Expand full comment

There will be support workers on site. The hotel is right on the bus line,

It's perfect.

The locals just have that old problem;"Could you be homeless somewhere else where I don't have to see it?" Oh, this program is called "Off the Streets" and I'm hoping this program will be expanded.

Harm reduction, would that we were all so enlightened.

From your posts here, you seem to be a professional and a strong advocate. If that comes across in your presentation, you will have no problem.

This is exciting! I know it's not the same thing, but we have a "living room" for people to come to to decompress, nap, recharge their phones, get a snack, maybe engage with resources--it's right behind my office, and I helped get it set up, and all day long I can hear the folks playing basketball or talking in the smoking area, or whatever, and it's really cool.

The security guard is always like, "Are they bothering you, Judge?" Um, no.

That's fantastic! Thank you for doing that. It's remarkable what can happen when you treat people... like people.

Had a confuse on where the open thread was!

Right now I R all about roof. Took off yesterday and totally fucked around; I was not needed after all. But that is fine!

They tore off the old roof, repaired the wood and water sealed the thing yesterday, today will be the installation and cleanup. I will be at work though because holes to dig and really, I am not needed here.

Side note, when picking out a color, hubs sent me three samples in email and went "Ok, Anne, which do you prefer" and it took me like 2 solid minutes to realize he was making an Anne of Green Gables ref (our inspector called our house a green gabled house). I was surprised he even knew who that was! He DOES pay attention!

When I especially need a real pick me up, I re-read it, and The Story Girl too.

Simple, sweet, and gentle is sometimes what I really really need.

Though and don't hate me, I will forever love the Megan Fallows mini series, which introduced a very young me to Anne to begin with XD Is not precisely book, but it is so cute and well done that is ok.

The Anne series is one of my comfort reads!

What kind of monster would hate you for loving the Megan Follows series? (and now I have a sad, because my detour into Wikipedia *just* informed me that Jonathan Crombie, who played Gilbert, died in 2015)

I never read Anne of Green Gables, but I bet I would enjoy it--I did love Caddie Woodlawn, which I think is a similar time period.
