"Fight the fare increase, vote for George O'Brien - help get Charlie off the MBTA" - just doesn't have the right flow to it.

It's not really nepotism if the guy gets there on his own merit, winning his own vote. It's like you want to pre-punish people because who they're related to.

Ironically, were Biden to (against all odds) pick Elizabeth Warren as his running mate, then there would be a Republican senator from Massachusetts, because the governor is Charlie Baker, a Republican, and he would likely name another Repub to the seat. That would have been Kennedy's moment to try to move over to the other house. But no, he's got to try to make this meaningless switch now. No Kennedy has ever lost an election in Massachusetts -- I guess he's trying to make history, just not in the right way.

The mostly D legislature routinely changes the law concerning the party the replacement comes from. If Joe did pick EW they would make sure the law says the new Sen must be from the same party.

The interesting thing about this race for me is the clashing of two popular narratives. One that we need "new blood" to rise up from the ranks the other is that we need more progressives.

My best friend's mom lives one county over from the epicenter. She said it was a good-sized jolt, but no obvious damage to the house, thank Crom.

(Meanwhile, here in the Bay Area, I'm not sure a 5.1 would even wake me up. 🤪)
