" ... I would absolutely love to replace Josh Schriver and everyone else who believes in this theory with literally anyone or anything on earth — ... because they are repulsive. Given the choice between Josh Schriver and a Tiffany lamp serving in a state legislature, I’m going with the lamp."

Why make the choice between something repulsive and something lovely? Howzabout making the choice between two repulsive entities: schriver and a giant stained foam finger, or schriver and a used Kleenex, or schriver and a jar of mayo that's been left in the hot sun for a week, etc.?

It amuses me that you used to be considered white if you've got a single white parent, so even i that map were true, it would be a result of a changing definition, not a result of a changing population.

Not to be That Person, but I thought the One Drop Rule meant that exactly the opposite was true. Not my area of expertise I will admit.

Yes, but before the one drop rule, the rule was entirely reversed. Nobody wanted to insult John Doe the burly smith by saying their kid was a half-breed, so everyone called that kid white.

A Republican who got ousted for being a racist? Why? Isn't that what they get voted for being?

Or maybe he didn't do racism the "proper" way but I thought they were past dog whistles by now....

Considering that his district runs across Oakland and McComb counties I would not say his changes of re-election are nil. That's where all the racists ran to after Detroit became a Black led city. He stands a good chance of being re-elected or if replaced his replacement will be in the same white vein.

There must be a place, (maybe part of Texas?) where these people can pool their money and buy land to build WhiteLandia and form their own icky place with forced religion, forced birth, subservient wives and NO diversity allowed! Like a clubhouse none of us want to join. He represents parts of Detroit? They chose this guy?

Some evangelical named Jones had some land in Guyana in 1978. Could be for sale.

Also the United States Census Bureau data says white Americans will a minority by 2045. Fortunately, by then the POC majority will have learned all they need to know about relations with minorities.

I hear that planned community went badly. Russia reminds me of that kind of unhealthy society, with an irrational, insecure “leader” who murders people simply for trying to leave or question his reign. Usually goes well.

Given that there are quite a few states with populations smaller than, or only slightly larger than, the fifth largest Canadian city where I live, there's got to be some pretty empty land out there for them.

there MUST be some uninhabited island somewhere either above the Arctic Circle or in the vast oceans between the Tropic of Capricorn and Antarctica they could set up their Galts Gulch and leave the rest of us alone. Inaccessible Island say, or Novaya Zemlya. Whether we lure them there or simply round them up and deport them, who cares?

They made that map up. There is something called the "World Map of Races" which paints a very different picture.

Here's another one.

This map is much more interesting - "Interactive Map: The World as 1,000 People." Asians clearly outnumber everyone else.

I wonder what they're talking about with Neanderthal and Denisovan/Australoid and Mongoloid. I don't think there is that much genetic connection between the former and the latter, traces of our more or less extinct ancestors seem sprinkled all over.

I read a good book by Carl Sagan called "The Dragons of Eden" in which he speculates on the evolution of human intelligence. He spends a lot of time talking about the human triune brain theory, which states that our brains are composed of three main parts: the reptilian brain, the limbic system, and the neocortex, which evolved in succession, each building on its predecessor.

So if we still have a reptilian brain, then we are connected very far back indeed to ancestors we do not at all resemble.

Carl Sagan is not a biologist, so he is going to get a lot of details wrong, but generally speaking he is right. You can see this in a cutthrough picture of the human brain: The nerves in the spinal column thicken at the top, then there is a small knob on top of that, and a huge growth on top of that.

If you want to see what the reptilian brain (thickened part of the column) does in absence of the others check the wikipedia page for anencephaly. But be warned, it will make you cry to see babies like that.

There's a scene in Breakfast of Champions where Kilgore Trout tells another person he's a science fiction writer.

The other person responds, "I never read science fiction. Everyone in those books are Americans. Hardly anyone's an American."
