And hadn't gone AWOL from military service.

I honestly don't think they will be satisfied unless Hunter relapses and ODs.

The voicemail Joe Biden left his son makes me think you're right. While it should never have been published, if you or someone you know has grappled with substance abuse it almost screamed "I love and would take a bullet for you, but I hate what you are doing to yourself and those you love you. You need help, and I will help you get it, but you fucking need help."

While I'm glad that, in large part due to her going public with her demons, addiction finally stopped being something that Wasn't Talked About, isn't there a prestigious rehab center somewhere named for a Republican First Lady who grappled with substance abuse?

ETA: Speaking of "trading on the family name," I once got a legal internship thanks to sharing a last name with my Dad. Do I need to retire to a monastery?

I remember too, this one thing: George Bush the second insisting his father had loved him unconditionally, however big a twerp he'd been. Even tho I felt they were a creepy family and I'd feel creepy having dinner at their house with Barbara Bush looking at me and trying to figure out if she could say mean things to me and get away with it or not, I do believe that relationship existed that young Geo. described and it's a beautiful thing. And here it is again. Why it's beautiful is these fathers aren't thinking "my enemies in Washington are seeing my son's a drunk, I can't have that!!" so they sent that son someplace away or whatev. No, these fathers don't do this. Is that what the GOP was counting on all this time with the horrifying laptop that let them down so bad? What a shame, you guys.

For not saying, "Yes, I am addicted to drugs." I can't get over it because, that would make him a strange person.

I just don't believe that. Democrats don't believe that Hunter laptop business. Millions of people pay their taxes late, and they pay a penalty, isn't that so? I mean, respectable people. And as for the gun form, it's a shame to be an addict, but surely not unheardof?

Seriously I can't face his name and I never get used to it. He has lots of courage I guess.

I know it's wrong but he started playing polo-- I think it was, and dropped all his regular friends! I know! Mr Chaos Ginger Baker! Flaws in everyone. Vanity!

I guess they can't resist the self aggrandizement they can grab in that moment. I don't know that kind of rich people much but I was picking corn around the age of 20, and a brother of the farm family used to come around in his white shoes, demonstrating that he was too fancy for the farm work. We'd be packing our corn in these wire crates and he'd stand there enjoying himself. I was the only female picker. So he said, in a thug way, "Hey, GIN-ger! You married?" Of course I said, "None of your business." Oh my God! Dead silence everywhere. Of course he wasn't rich, but it was as if he was. Long ago he'd convinced them that he was the guy on top.
