See how good and nice it is that we let everything be run by lawyers? They are so smart and nice and better than all of us. Sometimes they make a mistake and it is silly, like the time I fell right on my hiney by accident at the bowling alley.

Can't remember the name but old pulp fantasy book had a moment where the main character is being helped in court by a court attorney. asks if the guy is being paid and is told good god know then our society would only benefit those that can pay or know the law. Fantasy thinking we could avoid that and not the magic firerballs lol.

Has anyone bothered to ask Leticia Jones or Judge Engoron what they think of this travesty?

Someone educate me please: this is a state, civil trial. As such, does it have a path to SCOTUS? Or would it end at the NY Supremes?

I was once fifteen minutes late to court for a $25 ticket and the judge made me pay a $250 bond to stay out of jail on the spot. And that was when $250 was a week's wages, that is if you had a good job. All a these judges are pro MAGAT. They give MAGATs break after break after break after break.

maybe they just don't want black marks on their names when the MAGAts have their own Night of the Long Knives. It's coming, believe that.

I'd be surprised if he can come up with $175 million, so I bet in ten days he asks the court to debase itself further and cut it again. He loves to make people crawl for him, even better a bunch of Democrat judges.

Who knew a nearly a 78-year old man who wears orange make-up, lies about his weight, gossips like a middle school girl, and who is CONSTANTLY bitching and moaning about being held accountable for his many crimes can whine his way into the hearts of Liberal appointed appellate court judges to take pity on the loser? Damn bleeding heart Liberal appellate court judges.

Duhnald has been whining that there is a two-tiered justice system in the US. With this action, the rapist, liar, criminal, traitor has finally said something that is true. There is very obviously a system of justice for privileged, rich (or claiming to be rich) white men, and another for everyone else. Guess who benefits most from it.

Letting the Drumpf gang continue to run businesses in NY is no big deal - no one is going to hire them (as no one ever would) and as there is a court-mandated master watching their every move from inside the company (like a 24/7 colonoscopy) there isn't much hinky stuff they'll be able to manage until the hammer comes down.

"Letting the Drumpf gang continue to run businesses in NY is no big deal "

He can borrow money from sanctioned Russian banks through any NY bank who's willing to comply.

Let's remember that Chubb fronted him the bond for the EJC case, and also that they're at this point for all intents & purposes a wholly-owned Russian subsidiary.

Let's also remember how much money Russian oligarchs laundered through Deutsche Bank.

Still no big deal

The source of any bailouts will be known and the likelihood of ANY US bank serving as a conduit for Russian money is nil - foreign banks that have only marginal interests in the US are avoiding transactions with Russia so as to not lose access to SWIFT.

Additionally, serving as "officers" of the TO means nothing in relation to having to find funding to cover the bonds in order to appeal the judgements - the search for rubes to prop up his losing position was taking place whether or not the suspension was in place.

We're not surprised.

Those of us from New York (and New Jersey) are just mighty mighty upset that so many people dismissed & pooh-poohed & shouted down the warnings we tried to offer in 2015.

Because that was eight years ago and old boy's not done criming.

Soooooo ... is somebody going to explain to me why the bond was reduced when Donald was yowling all weekend that he "HAS TEH MONEYz"??

Especially when even Joyce White Vance made it clear that there was literally no reason for them to do it??

The appellate division isn't much help in that regard, seeing as how it didn't bother to provide a rationale for the ruling (or even a judge's sig on the order).

The exact point

Isn't it beat into our heads from nearly the first point a lot of us start to think about this that there need to be RATIONALES for laws & rulings??

They used to be quite fashionable prior to the #Fascist6 majority under Roberts on the current SCOTUS

Those "rationale" things, I mean

Even "precedent" was in fashion, and even Alito was constrained by it

But the state judges seem to have caught that flu just like all the wanna be Confederates are running after Mee Maw Ivey to be the next fastest ones to strip the DEI that's been in place since 2020 in an attempt to repair 400 years of white supremacy -- as they brandish their Confederate flags and scream-whine "unfaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir to whites"

Even the U.S. House majority has joined in on that while they sniffed the opportunity

It hasn't seemed to occur to any of these toads that turning the national clock back to 1840 is for a multiplicity of reasons a really trash idea

"this is the same judge that convicted his corporation of the same charges'

No, it isn't

For the second (or third) time, this is NY Appeals

"His fines haven't been changed"

We know that

But we don't know it for the reasons you suggest

We know it because the NYAG says so

Furthermore, since the bond is reduced to the point where it can actually be posted, we once again have exacerbated national security concerns because we don't know what foreign adversary OR domestic enemy (say, Elon Musk) may be helping him do it

Nobody's acting surprised when he says crazy things

We're sad that people believe them when we know the reason why

And -- if you missed Rachel this evening (because you write like you did) -- we're ... chagrined when an entire major party apparatus enables him so fully

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y67vAbASO2g

Even though some of us are not at all surprised because we know the reason why they do it is because his lawless criminality and malignant narcissism are aspirational for them, as opposed to something to avoid
