The next logical step is for them to elect an actual monkey to congress.

The important (isn’t it?) business of governing and legislating has startlingly few prerequisites to qualify. File the right forms, campaign however you want, get enough votes. But despite no specific degree or license or training, we generally elected mostly sane, educated and reasonably qualified people. Now the sensibilities about governance are changing. America sent Donald Trump to the White House and people like MTG, Lauren Boebert, George Santos and Tommy Tuberville to Congress. Now, the QAnon Shaman is the next step. My guess is it’s the result of total dissatisfaction and lack of trust in our government that is causing a large minority of America to go bugnuts. Because for decades politicians say different versions of the same speeches. “Better economy,” “lower taxes,” “fight crime,” “better jobs,” etc. etc. etc. But does any real change ever come? Do any candidates truly narrow the wealth gap? Does anything transformative ever happen? That’s why they reach for the left-field, off-the-wall, most outrageous option. Many identify with them, but others simply have no faith in the system anymore. Nothing will really change if we elect another politician. So let’s toss a bee hive into Congress and scatter the establishment. Shake things up. Try something else.

Except effective governing requires we send truly capable, competent and serious people to Congress and the White House. Congress is becoming hopelessly partisan, disorganized, inefficient and chaotic.

You'd think that a candidate running on the platform of "I'm not a fucking imbecile" would run away with the election. Then again, it is Aridzona...

To ensure we get a general election candidate with the requisite amount of performative aggression, the winner of the GOP primary should be determined by a video game tournament using Street Fighter 6.

Is the shaman eligible to run if he's already been convicted of a felony?

Expand full comment
DemoCat's avatar

I suspect he’s a sovereign citizen, or shaman. So laws and court orders don’t apply to him.

I believe committing a felony is a requirement for Republican candidates in some parts of the country. Not sure about the Libertarians though.

For those who do not follow college football, there was a scandal this year where a coach from Michigan was caught stealing signs from other teams using methods in violation of the NCAA policy.

I only mention this because the absolute denial of the illegality of the thing and the overwrought conspiracy theories coming from the Michigan fanbase has earned them the nickname "BlueAnon."

“Chansley was released into a halfway house this past March after serving 27 months of his 41-month sentence for his part in the January 6 insurrection, and has since been very vocal about the fact that all of his contrition over his actions that day were total bullshit, especially the part where his lawyer made him blame Trump for what he did.”

So, doesn’t that mean he’s violated the terms of his release?

"Candidate Rollie Stevens...is a country and western singer who has promised to perform a full concert with every speech he gives."

Well, we all know how much MAGA loves a grifter.

"He now claims that, actually, the January 6 insurrection he was literally filmed participating in, shirtless and wearing a large fur hat with horns, was a psyop by the FBI to make Trump and his supporters look bad."

Which, if we were to accept this at face value, would make Buffalo Shit Head a pawn in the FBI plot to discredit Trump.

We admit, it DID make Trump and his supporters look bad. I have deep doubts regarding any FBI involvement.

Actually, the first time Debbie Lesko won that seat, it was over Democrat Hiral Tipirneni by only 52.4% to 47.6% in 2018.

So how about we not throw in the towel in a race before it has even begun?

As someone who grew up in Phoenix, that is a pretty Republican part of it. It's the western side, and includes Sun City (the AZ equivalent of the Villages). It is full of older, white people who hate taxes and love their guns. I haven't lived there in a while so I can't speak to the current dynamics of a third person running in that district, but it doesn't surprise me it is still super GOP and likely MAGA at this point.
