In 2009, celebrated Santa Ana Police Detective Andy Alvarez was tasked to investigate a bloody attempted murder case, in which a man in a Jeep pulled up to three teenagers and opened fire on them. Alvarez had two leads. The first was that the shooter reportedly shouted "Delhi," the name of a Santa Ana street gang, before opening fire. The second was that two of the victims positively identified another kid in the Jeep as Francisco Vega, a former classmate with whom they'd previously had trouble.
"Authorities kept the exculpatory information to themselves and ultimately gave Sanchez a sweetheart, 16-year prison deal–instead of life in prison–to keep the informamy records and police cheating a secret"
...THIS is why all cases involving police misconduct should be handled by a Special Prosecutor. All sentencing decisions are processed through the state attorney's office and they always ask "why" if the victim or police request more lenient sentencing. This means, the state attorney was obviously in cahoots(as stated later) with the police. These entities CANNOT counter balance each other!
...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say NO INDICTMENT for the police involved! From the sound of it, these "kids" are of the brown persuasion, so no biggy! They would have ended up in jail anyways...amirite?!?!!
I had a friend who lived there, 15 or 20 years ago. At the time it was majority white and fairly reactionary Consider that the airport is named after John Wayne.
Why isn't Vega's attorney breaking the sound barrier to file a complaint with the California Bar? It may have been 10 years since I took Professional Responsibility and Legal Ethics, but I'm pretty sure I remember that continuing a prosecution when you have exculpatory evidence that the person you are prosecuting can't possiblly be guilty is grounds for discipline up to being disbarred.
Let's reason this out. Krugman is a economist. Economists deal with money. Time is money. Vega served time. Ipso facto, ergo propter hoc in Plano.

This story didn't mention race or ethnicity, but I'm guessing that Orange County is the new Black County?
I think Shrill posted something yesterday, hitting a homer on the second swing isn't bad.

A gang member, like all the other Mexicans.

"She was arrested as she drove herself to a local mental hospital." I think she should have gone there a little earlier.
Yes.
And Congress in general.

If the criminal system is rockin', don't bother knockin'.
I didn't comment on this when I first read it because it is so disgusting, it suppressed my snark.
Now I find that it still suppresses my snark. The fucking judge should be shot. Sorry.
