My brother worked the late shift at a convenience store there and would sell them beer after hours. It was just a dusty beach town outside of the summer season until the early '80s when MBAs with pink ties were making serious bank in Raleigh and started buying old beach places and started trying to outdo each other with who could put up the largest house on a tiny lot. Around the same time, Dino De Laurentiis decided to build a villa on the sound side and managed to turn (of all the god-forsaken backwaters in this fking country) Wilmington NC into a major movie and TV filming location. Of course the NC Republicans managed to slaughter that particular cash cow by passing HB2, the Bathroom Bill. While it was rescinded in 2019 and some filming work has returned, it's not nearly what it was six years ago, when my RWNJ brother had all the stars of Iron Man 3 except RJD3 pass through the restaurant where he was a line cook. Gwyneth Paltrow even put on a hairnet and went into the kitchen, thanking everyone from the line cooks back to the potwashers for a delightful meal. She, like the rest of the stars, was a generous tipper.

They've got about a dozen black people confessing how they've now become a Trump voter, and I don't think it will move the needle on the black vote, mostly because they are so asinine. The memes brag how Biden doesn't have a boat parade. There are doctored BLM/antifa attacks shot in grainy filters, and they are pretty badly produced. The one with the Trump vendor getting their table knocked over is about as genuine as that demon-sperm doctor.
The big concern is where the alphabet men and women are landing on this. I think, with nothing but gut instinct, that no cop with a molecule of self-preservation will think they are safe to do his crazed bidding. There is no guarantee they will get a pardon, or as they say, in like Flynn. Not worth it at this late stage losing streak, and I think those rallies are going to cost him in the end.
