Actually, that movie bugged me for just that reason - Liz didn't live in a cathedral. Tudor great doings were actually conducted in smallish wood-paneled rooms. "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" from the 70's got the sets right. (It also got the hair and clothes correct, subtly showing the change away from a medieval world during his reign.)

The number of ways that movie screwed up historical accuracy was ... epic. Favorite moments:

Walsingham murdering some gay boy with a bodkin that he keeps in a ... bodkin box on his desk.

He also murders Mary de Guise because, uh, whatever?

The Star Chamber is apparently housed in the north transcept of Westminster Abbey? Sure, why not.

But the costumse are certainly beautiful.

It wasn't really good to be the queen back then. Bessie was in constant fear of assassination.

Those queens weren't always very good to their subjects.

An infamous queen by the name of Elizabeth is a distant auntie of mine and I don't think she was all that good at all.

Being a female in a leadership position in the dark ages was a shit job in the first place. A female ruler simply wasn't respected enough to be truly effective.

Then there was the "horseplay" (aka sexual abuse) she endured from a 40yo Thomas Seymour when she was 14. Fortunately, thanks to her brother, Seymour's head ended up between a block and an axe.

National Review is what MAGAs think a roomful of "intellectual conservatives" looks like. During the William F. Buckley days it was sort of possible to hold your nose and kind of pretend he was an enlightened thinker on serous topics, if you could ignore his virulent racism, gross elitism, and all the rest of it. Sort of. But now NR has torn away the silly glasses, and we can see it's just a trump screed for old money white people to ho ho! Dash it all the nerve of these colored fellows! They shall raise taxes upon your mink coats, Ducjy! Such impudence! We must to the Hamptons immediately to recover our wits, wot?

I'm cynical -- and hopeful -- enough to want to believe that Noah Rothman raised his hand in a meeting where the topic at hand was "We want to be seen as responsible Conservatives! OTOH, we don't want to lose what little audience we have left. So, we're going go dip a toe in the pool of 'Trump might just be ... maybe a little bad," and run it up the flagpole and see who salutes. Who's the most expendable? Oh, shit, Rothman, you got something ready to go? Srsly? Well, good! I'm sure everyone else here admires your courage!" (*makes notation in employee file*)

From Twitter is dying, "The usual dose of outrage bait isn't working as well any longer, so the right-wingers are escalating the provocations." There is also a dwindling population of Tea Party, QAnon, MAGA old white people. As the audience gets smaller the outrage has to increase to compete for the available rubes and rubles.

I haven't gone out all week and today went to do some errands and thought I'd get some gas. Well, SHIT. It's in the $3.80's, where last time I filled up it was in the $3.20's. Just glanced at the news headlines and they are blaming it on the heat waves and effect on oil refinery production. Of course we know it is Joe's fault, but that was a rude shock.

I don't know how much the Trump Crime Family/Calvin Klein had to pay to get it deeply buried on search engine results, but that fake Calvin Klein "Obsession" ad featuring the photo of Justin and Ivanka was a stroke of genius.

Mad King Elon will destroy what’s left of Twitter. He’s running the company like an impulsive toddler. Clearly, there was no planning involved in the name change debacle as evidenced that the didn’t apply for a construction permit to replace the sign or considers how local residents might object to the new sign. It’s just whatever whims take hold in his fevered brain on any given day.

I'm going to Seattle next week for a conference and in the "get ready" email, they included some info on dress code (casual, thankfully) and described August in Seattle as "toasty", with highs ranging from 70-80F. As I'm coming from south Texas, I'm looking forward to a break from 100+ temps. It's all about what you're used to, I know, but it's funny to think of 75 as "toasty"!
