Great. The future of our democracy comes down to a race for a position almost no one understands or cares about. Neither candidate is really campaigning in my state because these down ballot races are all about turnout. If you are going to check D for House or senate then you are most likely just gonna check D all the way down.

The MSM never asks any follow-up questions. "We let politicians ramble, you decide".

Like Rhonda "go-go-boots" Santis? Trump's only saving graces were his stupidity and incompetence; neither of which particularly apply to TyRONasaurus Wrecks, and is the next best-known and supported Republican after Donnie Sticky-Fingers.

There's a wonderful bit of dialogue in William Eastlake's novel "Castle Keep", a WWII-based anti-war book and film, between a senior and junior officer: Falconer: What's wrong, Beckman? Beckman: Europe, sir, it's dying. Falconer: You're wrong, Beckman. Europe isn't dying. It's dead. That's why we're here. Don't you read the papers?

Every time I read one of these "whither democracy" pieces, I'm reminded of this.

As an Arizonan, the whole Finchem thing is baffling and terrifying. Masters is creepy and weird and a fascist. Finchem TRIED TO OVERTHROW THE ELECTION and said he'd do it again and people who will vote against Masters will ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and vote for the fascist with the cowboy hat.

Sometimes I wonder if the best thing might be to let them have their fun overthrowing democracy, and see how people like it. Sooner or later the new system of handing elections over to state legislatures and secretaries of state could result in an outcome even MAGATs don’t like. More likely, a real stolen election could get the attention of the mass unwashed who think none of this matters. “Hey! Wait a minute! More people voted for my guy, but they’re putting in the other guy? That seems wrong!”

Or not. They’ll take over and we won’t have this semi-democratic republic anymore.

I remind myself all the time that there’s enough planet left for me and Mr F, who are also child-free, and that at 58 I’ve had all the abortions I’m gonna need.

This post is what finally shamed me into signing up to canvass for Cheri Beasley. In the past I’ve done phone banking and I find it soul crushing, also I have doubts that it works. But when you talk to people face to face you may be able to educate or motivate a few voters. Thanks for the nudge.

26 days until we find out if we've still got a chance at a democracy going forward.

27 days, really, because you KNOW we're not going to get all the results until Nov 8.
