Hell, I don't know if any of the stories mean anything, or are just speculative. The not always reliable Alfredo Jalife-Rahem (La Jornada, Mexico City) claims some British mercenary group was also talking to the lithium investors about security,

If you follow Latin American politics at all, you know that rumors and conspiracy theories are SOP.

If Reagan were President right now he would have tax payer funded terrorists torturing the winners of that election. Progress!

A half screen filling banner with desclaimers needs to be made cumpolsory during any 'opinion' and any 'news' segment mentioning 'opinion' segments on for-profit-lying media.

Just like cancer pictures on cigarette packs. Thes ugly lies need to be visibly shown for what they are.

I saved a photo of Bannon on the steps of some courthouse with his grinning lawyers. He looks as bloated and rotten as his soul. And imagine being so warped your life’s work involves defending Steve Bannon from receiving the justice he deserves. It’s like the E. Jean Carroll defamation lawsuit against Trump. The DOJ was required to honor its oath to defend sitting potus from personal lawsuits for dumb things they might say. Imagine you reach the DOJ as a young lawyer, ready to defend America and make a difference, and your assignment is “defend Trump for saying this highly respected woman is a liar and too unattractive to rape.” No Silkwood shower can remove that film.

Yes, the 1000 nutbag fascists failed on 1/6 to defeat the US government. But this is 1500 nutbag fascists versus the Brazilian government. Surely it will work this time. This is the new playbook. If a liberal wins, cry fraud, attempt a coup, take your punishment and spend your remaining years sitting in your garage telling your friends how YOU are a martyr and are part of history.

He's got a phone. Besides, Bannon is probably more familiar with the details. Trump is just the basic idea man, like "let's stop Congress", others do the tactics, like halt the Congressional electoral vote count by violently raiding the Capitol.

I've probably erased five responses to this, as I have no idea how to respond to a buzzword this meaningless. "Agency" was exercised a hell of a lot in 2019: the poor (often indigenous peoples) of La Paz and rural Bolivia voted overwhelmingly for MAS, and accusations of "voting irregularities" were seized upon by right backed up by the wealthy elements of Bolivian society to install Jeanine Anez into power. "Agency" was unfortunately not available for the victims of the Sacaba and Senkata massacres, the perpetrators of which were shielded from accounability by Anez's government.

But please, tell me more about this "agency" concept. It's absolutely fascinating to see liberals wield it.

As someone who spent several years as a helicopter pilot in Central America, I have no comment on that. (wink wink)

During his "War Room" podcast, Bannon said, "Look at the report, the code, the tabulator, the machines and open them up … Be transparent, let the citizens of Brazil see."I just want to point out that if you show the average person the raw data, they won't know what the fuck is going on. It won't make a bit of sense. And they think any amount of cleaning up the data or processing the data into more useful products is inherently distorting the truth. Example: Here are a raw and calibrated Hubble Space Telescope image:

https://uploads.disquscdn.c... https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

The raw image is very ugly, but it is ugly in known ways. Each pixel for example has a slightly different sensitivity. But we know what that sensitivity is, so we can correct for it. The goal is to know exactly how much light hit the detector. And if we know that a photon produces 5 counts in one pixel and 4 counts in another, then we can correct for it. There are also distortions in the focal plane that can be removed. There's lots of stuff going on.

And before we get to that, you have to figure out how to even look at the data. Most Hubble data is publicly available, but it's not in a format you've ever used before (unless you're an astronomer). There's a lot of reasons for that, mainly going back to the fact that 35 years ago when CCDs (digital cameras) were first being used, there was no already available format for the data and metadata. How to work with the data isn't hidden or secret, but it isn't easy either and there is a learning curve. That's why I think all this "show me the data" is bullshit. I mean, I have no problem with it being public, but be very skeptical of anything someone who hasn't worked with that type of data says.

I know. I just think it’s beyond believe that, even with Trump still in power, at least a few of insurrectionists weren’t booked right there then.
