$1500 an HOUR? Holy shit. To manage a trust whose single purpose is to compensate victims? And he spent 38 million on himself and his cronies? America is backwards and a total mess. It’s hard to read stories like these and not feel like everything is a grift, so take what you can, while you can. It’s disheartening.
The worst thing is that the city knew the fire danger Paradise faced and had one of the most comprehensive fire emergency plans in the country. It still wasn't enough.
Edit: goddamn Autocorrect keeps garbling my posts.
There's the problem. You think that Chuck Todd has mastered the concepts of object permanence and linear time. Chuck Todd is really just an especially unattractive goldfish (and, honestly, even given that we're discussing "goldfish", not especially bright, even for a goldfish).
Why does nobody talk of the true victims of these fires: The existing shareholders? Instead of profits, they are going to have to spend company money (either that, or rate increases for customers. Okay, so it's going to be all rate increases, but still the same point) on all the deferred maintenance they've been putting off for decades, regulators are likely going to be all up in the company's collective ass, and all of the money and stock going to all those takers whinging about "Oh, my house burned down!" and "Oh, my family's dead due to your neglect!" will never be paid to them.
Well, the conference chair is supposed to also do a ton of fundraising. And that was something that Liz Cheney excelled at. I suspect that Elise Stefanik is going to find that fundraising is hard, it fucking sucks, and it's constant, and the idiots from across the country who donate to the Louie Gohmerts and the Devin Nuneses and the Paul Gopars and the Elise Stefaniks aren't the people who the party counts on to make the big, dark money donations that actually run the party and the various leadership PACs that fund real elections.Yes, go right ahead, and replace an evilly competent and focused person with an evilly stupid and venal person. Enjoy the sowing, wait for the reaping, assholes!
Wow, this program is even worse than “The Road Home” program was after Hurricane Katrina, which I didn’t think was possible. The Road Home only stole about 35% of the funds from HUD for “administration”, and this one is stealing more than twice that much.
I've been ruminating on your comment "a constantly meaner society" for awhile. I don't know, (nor may it matter) but the degree of meanness may have always been here, just hidden below a veneer of politeness and "respectability". And we are finally stripping away that veneer.
There is now a female CEO
Ah, yes, a perfect example of the classic glass cliff. Of course.

You can set your watch to it, I swear.
"Why are you yelling at me about my racial slurs? I meant it in a nice way!"
It takes billions to donate millions.

Book him for Praxis. Stat.

The claims adjuster is adjusting claims in the same way a bank robber adjusts claims.
