Whoops! I forgot to link back to the earlier Wonkette article in which I elaborated on the Cooties Hypothesis! I have now fixed that if you refresh, or if you prefer to find it right here, here ya go!

Excellent 1900 words! It would also be helpful to add 6 more to define the acronym WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health), as not everyone knows what that is.

Thank you! I should have, but now with your reply that info is pinned at the top of the thread. So I will just yell at everyone, "DID YOU READ SLEEPMONGER?"

Thank you for writing this - I haven't been able to make it through more than 40 pages because all my highlights and notes were "ok, so give funding. And staffing." and also I had a special colour for "wtf Hilary".

I'm aiming to work in gender affirming care here in the UK and have met so many wonderful clinicians doing their very best. When the report came out we were all so angry/confused/saddened that the boss took it upon herself to remind everyone that we are literally saving lives, every day.

Thank you for reading the whole thing so I didn't have to, and being fair enough to point out the occasional good points. The Labour Party opposition have promised to implement the whole thing if elected, which reiterates that the Labour Party aren't worth a bucket of warm hormones.

Thanks for a very good read.

And the echo of Umbridge is definitely not just you, it was the first thing i thought of too when reading that Cass quote.

Also, the Delores Umbridge bit made me laugh so hard because I've been saying that shit for a while. The movie where they took over Hogwarts and turned it into a fascist Nazi wizard school was the worst movie for me to watch. It actually upset me. I was quite the nerdy little Potter head back in the day before I knew that JK was actually more Slytherin than anything. But for a long time now, I've been feeling as though we were living through that movie. Fantasy does mirror reality I suppose.

It is so fucking tiresome to see the lives of people you love turned into a political football to be used to score points. 😡

The thing that horrifies me is this is exactly what the Rethugs are going to do if they win in November. A friend asked what I was going to do if the election in November goes badly. I’m not sure yet but I’m researching foreign locations that aren’t governed by transphobic god botherers.

In his monologue last night, Jimmy Kimmel said, if Trump wins, he'll have to leave the country.

Honestly, I doubt the Rethugs would even take the trouble to camouflage their prejudice with pseudo-science. They'd just say it's unnatural or against God or who gives a shit.

exactly, and it won't Marge and the Troglodytes 388 pages to tell you why, either

Thanks for wading through that for us. And for the on-the-nose Dolores Umbridge quote! Weird how J.K. Rowling has morphed into a more ridiculous version of her character.

If it's any consolation, there is not likely to be a Tory government in the next year or so.

While I don't want to be a downer, it doesn't look like Labour is going to be any better on this (or, arguably, most other things either). I think the comment I saw recently which best sums up was: "This too shall pass. It shall pass like a kidney stone, but it shall pass."

I wouldn't worry so much for such a thing except such reports are designed to be cherry-picked to allow conservatives to do the thing where they can get justification to harm vulnerable minorities. I can already see the casus belli for extra gatekeeping, no matter the good portions you've pointed out in this review. Great article.

I've seen this cited by rightwing pundits and I'm finding it odd that conservatives suddenly want to be MORE like Europe. We can't adopt the fucking metric system but we'll take advice from the Brits on this?

***It also treats social transitions as creating the demand for medical transitions as the persons who socially transition are much more likely to go on to seek medical transition.***

That sounds like the "gateway drug" accusation about weed. If you start by interviewing people who underwent medical transition, you will find that 100% of them started with social transition. Now cue the knee-jerk reaction.
