On the new platform, I'm trying something different, which is a whole section on Tabs gifs info. But I know going somewhere else is too much for some of you fine folk, so, you also get the usual pinned comment thing too which'll just be a quick blurb on source info (attribution is important!) and a pointer to the "more info" stuff :)
ETA, because I didn't think of them until now... the "more info" link is still on Substack, so you can bop right back here to Wonkette without breaking a sweat. And its not that I want to make you traipse all over the place, but there's no video preview or image embedding here in these comments, which aren't allowed anyway, so that's why the extra page over on my Substack instance. As always, I know you won't be shy about sharing your opinion about how you like the change, so go ahead and comment here or on the other page for suggestions, etc.
I too have noticed this :) As I wrote somewhere (I dunno, don't ask me where, I'm all over Substack), I'm going to take advantage but will try not to push this too far as I doubt readers are going to love waiting very long for huge image loads.
I’m really liking the change but am still nervous when you say there is more to learn. This is the remnants of finals anxiety (Will I get an A? OMG, do I remember ANYTHING?) combined with my actual professional anxiety which exists every time I go to work. Arrrrrgggghhhh
I think what's going on is that when you click into comments, Substack goes to a seperate page, so you don't see any of the article until you click the "back" button of your browser, yes? Or also you could click the article title at the top of this here comments page an you'd be back, baby!
I intend to found two towns in California, a town named Cognito for people who don't want to be recognized, and another named Communicado for people who don't want to be contacted.
Finally found TABS, had to look in the archives for it, though, along with several other articles that got stashed away by Substack. I'll let others know on today's open thread.
I took Editrix's advice and went to the "Manage subscriptions" page and started making changes, and in the middle of doing this it went POOF! and kicked me out of the Wonkette substack, and now "Manage Subscriptions" is no longer a choice when I click on my icon in the top right corner. I musta done something wrong. Who knows what I did wrong?
Also, when I now click on my Wonkette bookmark and it takes me to the Wonkette substack, it shows a list of articles that does not include "Tabs" because apparently there are so many more recent articles since this morning's "Tabs" that "Tabs" has been kicked off the bottom of the list. I have to click on "View All" in order to expand the list. Is the number of articles displayed a default setting in Substack, or is this something Editrix can change so that it displays a longer list of articles? It's not a HUGE problem, but it is mildly annoying since I'm not used to it.
Stroke was having the same issue you were with getting unsubscribed or logged out when he tried to manage emails. I am asking our devs to look at it.
I have also asked them if we can default recent stories to about 15; they don't have a way to do that as yet, but will look into it for me. "View all" is definitely your friend, but it's so hard to see up there at the top.
I am very very happy for all the 50 year olds who are getting their debt written off, and very very resigned to having to pay the last $10,000 that I owe myself. I never qualified for IBR and I've only worked in a non-qualifying public service position for about eight years now.
I'm not even that mad - I'm one of the "lucky" ones that managed to eventually get a job that uses both my undergraduate and master's degrees.
"You can opt out of various newsletters in your profile settings in the upper right hand corner."
If you do that for "receive emails for new posts", it unsubscribes you, and you have to go through the subscription process again. Not too much trouble, but you can't "subscribe" and not get any emails, even if all you do with notification emails is delete them.
You know, I bet you have to be subscribed to at least one newsletter. I'm going to make a newsletter called We Don't Actually Send Out This Newsletter, just give me a bit to figure out where to add it.
Cool, but I don't think it will work. I hit Wonkette daily, and read everything (-ish), so I thought, hmm, I don't need notifications, I'll see the stuff when I get there, and turned things off. All fine until I turned off the article notification (which is the main feed, I think?). Then the kitten with the whip wants to know if I'd like to subscribe. Yes, miss! Sorry, ma'am!
So I checked a bit, and turning on other things, but turning off the main feed, that got me unsubscribed too (I tried leaving the chat thread notifications turned on, since I'm more likely to miss those). So it's the article feed, which is prolly marked by SubStack as the main feed, or otherwise somehow special. But it's fine; I can bounce on the delete key for those with less trouble than managing actual spam. :-)
A tip for folks who use Feedly or other RSS readers to stay up to date with Wonkette: If Wonkette has suddenly disappeared from your news feeds, delete the older listing, then re-add with the RSS link "https://wonkette.com/feed". You're welcome!
As for that house in Detroit…one of the comments on the site said it was basically recreating Graceland. I have never understood some wealthy people’s ideas of ‘taste’. I have been in a number of very wealthy people’s homes and I always find their choices interesting. True old wealth does not look like this…yes, you recognize that the vase over there is probably Ming but there is a kind of careless grandeur or, in their vacation homes, even a proud shabbiness…because they have nothing to prove.
Regarding the FBI and DHS and some of the other ‘intelligence’ agency’s all pointing fingers at each other over the incompetence of J6 prior awareness. I call bs. Lawfare article referenced spells it out. There was much evil lurking is high and low places in the Trump administrations.
Just a reminder, the dissent into totalitarianism depends on ‘divide and conquer‘ and ‘destroy trust in institutions’.
I guess the question I'm more concerned with is why isn't the government more concerned *now* about the coming threats? Why isn't the *country* more concerned?
Just made this discovery myself. Seeing Wonkette disappear from my newsreader sent me into mild panic. As a sudden disruption to a years-long, daily ritual, it was like someone took away my coffee. But it was an easy fix!
I anticipated it when I saw the RSS link on the new homepage so I had set it up a couple of days ago. I figured worst case I'd get doubles (I did not).

I'm digging substack on the web, but I uninstalled that meddlesome app
I like the app, but I can see it’s not for everyone.
I didn't push the limit, but I noticed that the Substack places that will embed gifs have a larger size limit than Disqus' 5MB.
I too have noticed this :) As I wrote somewhere (I dunno, don't ask me where, I'm all over Substack), I'm going to take advantage but will try not to push this too far as I doubt readers are going to love waiting very long for huge image loads.

Deep breaths, you are here so you've already learned most of what you need.
The only thing I find wrong is the implication that I would traipse. I do not traipse, I stumble around.
I maintain all the dignity of a drunk gazelle at 2:01am on a Saturday morning, screaming at the lions to DEBATE ME!!!1!!!!
Magnifique!
You've outdone yourself, Martini.
Thanks darlin'!
I saw the gif when I opened the article, now it's gone though?

The comment thread is on a separate page from the article. If you want both open at the same time, you have to open one in a new tab.
Tabception!
Yo, I heard you liked tabs, so I put some tabs in your tabs.
Substack of pancakes, FTW!
I was able to see the gif here, whereas on the old platform, I had to open up in Incognito mode to see it. So, one point for Subby!
I intend to found two towns in California, a town named Cognito for people who don't want to be recognized, and another named Communicado for people who don't want to be contacted.
Also, super-excellent job on the Tabs Gif today!

"Where are you?"
"In Communicado."
"Then why are you talking?"
That's like Trepid, Utah.
"What the weather like there?"
In tents!
No, wait, that's a different joke.
How much do lots in Communicado start at?
Or found them in IN.

Wow! I don’t see a single article since tabs this morning. Did Substack hire Disqus to provide our previous user experience?

That house? It's Liberace Graceland Wanda.
Also, Serge Gainsbourg + Jane Birkin gave all us ugly guys hope in the 70's. Undeserved hope, but hope just the same.

reporting that to our guy too, thank you
Yeah, that happened here too.
wonder what happens if I tell my email that those are SPAM... Would that mess up wonkette's standing with the substack email dohickeys?
I'd guess so. Hold off until we can find out, if possible!
Will do! I know just enough marketing-email trivia to hesitate.

What an amazing life…RIP Jane Birkin
My apologies but I just thought of another entry for Jeff Foxworthy's Redneck to English dictionary:
Tylenol: building supplies. "I'll reno your kitchen for free but you gotta pay for the Tylenol."
