I used to wonder whether every Atlas Obscura article had to include a geographic error or typo. I was nearly convinced it was in their style guide, like an alternative facts easter egg.
we have the original in our downstairs bathroom. i am often hosting random groups of people (i run a theatre) and they are endlessly fascinated by whatever page i happen to flip open.
For those of you following the story of the god-bothering Texas foobaw coach who sued to get back a job he didn't want (he's making way more bank grifting off his little privilege tantrum) - more infuriating details from Friendly Atheist:
And the God- bothering HS fubaw coach in WA who won at the SC over his performative 'pray in the middle of the field' stunt' quit his job after one game.
My doc put me on Metformin when he put me on a statin. My A1C had gotten high and cholesterol had gone from borderline to worse to really pretty bad. Come to think of it I have lost about 25 # in the past year or 2 but I thought it was my doing. Hmmm. I was going to ask to go off of it thinking all my numbers were so much better these days.
Yes, do that Romania trip! The castle they picture is ""Dracula's,""(extra set of punctuation required) which is impressive but largely rebuilt, and mobbed with tourists. But the drive there on backroads through the snowy Carpathians was the BOMB, and also too, the parking lot souvenir stands have some spectacular stuff. Anyway, it's the lousiest of the castles we saw during our week there, most of which we had to ourselves, running around Transylvania with a friend who was on a year-long fellowship. Cluj may be the world's coolest college town. It certainly has the most spectacular bars I've seen anywhere (just do an image search on "bars Cluj").
i have a recent intense interest in Erzsébet Bathory (theater thing). did you run into her anywhere? i understand her castle is in current slovakia, but curious....
OT ancient TV, watching original Outer Limits episode Zzzzzz. Wow. This just might be the worst one they ever did. So of course it's a love triangle plot.
I do hope the person that was convinced Rebecca is rich is doing okay; they were pretty nuts. I want people to be safe and healthy, especially if they're struggling with mental health.
It was bad enough when the office internet crashed yesterday (3rd time in 3 weeks!) but today it’s either down AGAIN or STILL down, and nobody bothered to call us to tell us to work from home. Just a 10 minute walk for me, but some of us here at the office drive half an hour or more.
East central NC had a low of 71 last night. It's 80 already and in it's way to 95. And for the next 7 days it's supposed to be highs around 90 and humid. I'm ready for those cool, dry 75 day 55 nighttime temps.
Yeah we ramp up to 95 on Saturday but it's been the mildest summer in SoCal that I can remember in a long time. Of course we aren't out of it yet. I'm waiting for the shoe to drop and have a week of 100+ days.
In the midst of the hottest July on record and the hottest August in record. If your weather was mild, imagine what most of the rest of the world suffered.

“Throbs at the Desk”
LOL
It kind of describes my entire adolescence.
"Throbs at the desk" was something that pubescent me actively avoided by not looking around the classroom and instead thinking about baseball.
They haven't even dreamed of the Beatles yet.
Part of me was throbbing just watching that.
Don't blame me, YOU set it on a tee.

THAT'S the shit, right there!
I guess I should have referenced the Greek title instead.
I thought EC meant it was Slowhand's cheerleading squad.
Entertaining Comics? ("EC for me, see?")
I thought it was a riff on the absurdity of the Electoral College.
I am the walrus.

Lulu Libelz!
Atlas obscura is my favorite internet rabbit hole. Far weirder than Wikipedia.

No, not when the Justices themselves are lying as to the facts of the case in order to overturn long settled case law.
Today's Ruben Bolling!

Man, he's been the best for like 30 years and he still kills me.
I really thought that first tab read, “Biden’s National Labor Relations Board brings workers right back from the dead.”
I was really looking forward to the zombie apocalypse saving us from the rest of this election season.
Well you've done it now -- Atlas Obscura is 100% addictive! Oh, by the way, have you discovered the Brooks Falls Bears on explore.org?

I have never heard of her until now, so no. Interesting story!

There's actually a chill in the air this morning, currently 62 degrees. Not close the windows time but grabbing a blanket to throw over my shoulders.
Spouse decided we should abandon trip to the Sierra Nevada and instead go to San Diego where she could bask in the heat and swim in the ocean.
It is predicted to be in the 60's and low 70's - just slightly warmer than the Sierra.
This year is a weird one.

Oh, I'm aware, that's what's so weird about it. We usually have at least one or two weeks of over 100 and it hasn't happened yet.
