Biden needs to remove all military bases and all other federal institutions that are in Alabama in order to get Mr. Penis Head (didn't want to libel Mr. Potato Head) to allow military promotions to go forward. Can Mr. Penis Head be subjected to a Federal indictment for interference with the U.S. military command, since only the President is commander in chief? This seems to be a national security concern.

Remember how quiet Mitch McConnell was up there at the podium? His silence would be deafening if Schumer started pulling Tuberville's committee assignments.

There Biden goes again, curbing wasteful spending by not indulging in political vanity projects.

Recent testimony about alleged non-human biologics aside, I still think the Space Force is the dumbest and most unnecessary armed forces expansion to date. I mean, yay for Colorado, but FFS can we just get a real social safety net up and going now that we've fast-tracked automation?

Apparently, when you give a speech to some political or non profit group, they give you a plaque. Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell had a long corridor in the office leading from the front desk back to the Administrative Section where his office was. He lined that corridor with every plaque he'd ever received, even the one from the podunk concerned citizens group to Kenneth J. Blackwell.

You are letting Schumer off the hook by solely blaming Tubs. He could simply hold the Senate in session until this is done. As he refuses to do so, he must not think it's very important.

You usually have to hear a Senator utter a few words before you come to the conclusion that they are as dumb AF, e.g. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Crackpot) admitted into evidence. But Tuberville's face screams inbred, ignorant, moron. He doesn't even have to flap his ears for you know that he has the IQ of a gum eraser

Space Command was supposed to move to the Huntsville, Alabama, area. Biden said nah, let’s keep it in Colorado Springs.

OK, now let's do something about all the Jeebus freaks so they don't infest Space Force as they have the Air Force Academy.

Maybe we should move all military bases out of the ex-Confederacy. After all, there's no need to keep them there to dissuade the Rebels from another Civil War, is there? And, of course, we need the bases to be where the troops can train year-round. Well... With global warming, won't that soon be in the middle tier of the nation?

As someone explained earlier, he's preventing the efficiency of using unanimous consent to vote through a pile of these promotions at once. Without that, they have to go through the whole process one person at a time, and it doesn't work like a vote-a-rama. What I don't know is why they don't pick one or two, like the Commandant of the Marine Corps, to go through the process on. I would bet that there's a good reason for it, but I don't know what it is.

Schumer should just do all of them now.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

He can't. Select ones that are really important, like the Marine Corp Commandant, I can see. Each promotion would have to be handled individually, with 30 hours of debate for each one.

Once prostates start to explode my guess is Tubs would give up. Especially when it's his. I mean they'd be looking at what? 6 months without a break? The point us we can't do anything about GOP but the Democrats have that option if they choose to use it.

I think this is one of those Senate “rules” which allow a single senator to hold up anything (?) just by waving his (or her, or their) willie around. Which the Dems could absolutely vote to do away with, but they like their prerogatives too much.

It was a gamble that no one would be stupid enough to elect a complete asshole. The alternative is a separate vote on each promotion, preceded by 30 hours of debate. On. Each. Promotion.

In general, the USG is having a hard time hiring civilians and the DoD is having a hard time with recruitment and retention of both military and civilians. Across all the agencies (DoD, DoE, EPA, etc.) it takes a very long time to get hired and pay is not keeping up with industry. States that have poor healthcare or educational infrastructures are at a further disadvantage. Most of my stories are anecdotal (I can back them up!) but USG facilities in Kentucky were not able to draw folks from Colorado when facilities closed (folks retired or found other jobs), one of the Huntsville facilities has hired remote workers from other states because they can't get folks to move there. The remote workers are even in such high demand that other USG agencies are poaching them from one another. Let's face it, it's MUCH easier to poach someone who already has a clearance than to start fresh.

Often, your senior officers and high-grade civilians will weather the Congressional shit because they have to meet minimum retirement ages (MRA) in order to collect a pension. When I started, folks stayed on long after they met their MRA. That is also starting to change. If Congress continues to fuck with senior officer promotions the drain will hasten and people will leave the moment they meet their MRA (which is what I did). It's a huge shit show.

I was a retired Lt Col and was hired as a GS 13. I made about 90K to start. Plus a $60K per year housing allowance. Plus a $40K post allowance. The latter two were untaxed . I worked my ass off, spent months in a bunker during Iran/Iraq. But we're still making $ off of that money. Together we made a quarter million a year.

Feds earn more than that?

1 performance bonus/year. If you're in a lab demo performance plan that bonus could be up to $10k if you did something that was exceptional. The real benefits are the medical plans and pension. Once you've met your minimum retirement age you can lock those in and work as a contractor and combine your new salary with the pension. That's why the brain drain is occurring.
