Don't forget to mention that all the food preparers and servers have the flu and have sneezed and snotted in the food because they are not given any paid sick leave.

The thing is, utility companies are not using old coal plants because of cheap natural gas. Here in Georgia, even, Ga. Power is contracting for mucho solar capacity (and building a clusterfuck of an expensive nuclear expansion). In the latter, GP is going against the grain because other companies are trying to shut down nuclear plants earlier than planned, again because of cheap natural gas.Obviously one can't just crank a nuclear reactor up like a Honda generator when the power goes out, so coal plants will, hopefully for the most part, be relegated to use only when electricity use peaks, say on really hot days.To be competitive, at this time, coal will need to be "subsidary-ed" more than it already is. Already coal mining companies are allowed to wreck the environment by fucking up mountains and tossing their waste shit in streams.Trump's plan will increase the existing environmental costs of coal -- more deaths, more sickness. And as the post points out, minorities will get the bulk of all this "clean coal" yumminess.

Neonicotinoids are pesticides; possibly bad for bees.

Ontario's Pickering, Darlington and Bruce plants are on lakes, but the CANDU system doesn't irradiate the cooling water so they let the natural current in the lakes move the water around. Good fishing near the plants, too, thanks to the warm water.

Irony? Nuclear power plants always require rivers to provide the water for cooling. So you have the same requirements to access, store and manage water, but don't just use it to make the electricity.

About a year ago I saw one in western NY and it had the obligatory sticker that said “Prius repellent” on it.Ugh!

My greatest fantasy is to gather all these rich jerks intent on turning the planet into an episode of "Hoarders" into a big fancy dining room....

They with be served a fantastic feast. When the stuff is set before them, they will then be informed that....* ....the meat hasn't been inspected and has been sitting around a filthy slaughterhouse. * ....the iced tea is made with tap water from Flint, Michigan while the coffee was made with water from the most frack-tacular part of West Virginia.* ....The produce may has listeria.* ....The people cooking everything are Latinx and black, were hurt most by these fat cats and they are PISSED!* ....No one will be allowed to leave or NOT eat the meal unless they vow to stop being slimeballs, beef up regulations, protect the environment and treat all people as EQUALS!* ....those who promise will be spied on to make sure they make good on those promises....oe they'll be dragged back and forced to drink a gallon of frack-water!

Nope, here in western PA, Ohio and West Virginia they're all over the place. I don't understand how that shit is legal?

Here in KS, we have an absurd number of these coal-rolling vehicles on our roads. I'm hoping that concentration is limited to ruby red states like ours and is not becoming a thing all across the country. Can't imagine trying to parallel park a dually in a big city so probably just a flyover country thing.

Doktor Zoom,

All of humanity is going to suffer now from the Trump presidency, even everyone who does not live anywhere near the United States!

Not so much any more, though it's possible to install small community plants that make use of natural water-level differences. Up where I used to live there were two hydro plants on one stretch of river, sufficient to supply most local needs. Unfortunately they were decommissioned decades ago when the towns switched over from DC to 110V 60Hz AC, but if the will (and money) were there they could be used again with zero impact on the waterways. Small local projects like this would go a long way to getting us all off consumables.

Just between you and me and the doorpost, we're already taking tenders for the job.

When we ride Assmouth out of town on a rail, I propose we use coal slurry in place of tar.
