When I correctly call their actions neo-fascist, I get lambasted for being "uncivil" and for "calling names" and when I talk about how I'm under no obligation to be nice to neofascists openly stripping people's rights (Paradox of Tolerance stuff), and how people should stand up and it took a whole World War to shut this down the last time it really got up and running, I get told I'm a hysterical alarmist and none of that will happen.
It's absolutely maddening. I expect better of my fellow human beings and am constantly being let down.

Someone on another site related the story of being called for jury duty, and, during voir dire, one potential juror refused to respond in a civil tone despite repeated admonitions by the judge. He finally dismissed the juror and told him to leave by the side door he indicated. The man instead crossed in front of the judge to leave by the main entrance and gave the judge a big smirk along the way.
The judge cited him for contempt, jailed him without bail, and kept him there for four days.
Republicans are really hellbent on turning our government upside down. Extra-judicial killings are part the president's official duties. Meanwhile, High Crimes and Misdemeanors includes doing your job poorly or doing your job just fine but your job entails enacting policies that some people in congress don't like.
I kind of miss the old Republicans, the Richard Lugars and Nancy Kassbaums. You might disagree with them but you respected them as people. William Weld ran against John Kerry for Senate in 1996 and it was an extremely graceful and courteous race with rousing intellectual debates. The heart yearns for a kinder time
