both quite lovely. both very in their own bubble. honestly at least we are both in probably some of the best possible places to be now.. i fear for the others who arent so lucky. truth is even in OR and NY once you leave the cities you will find some VILE people..

What's up with that? I haven't had a dog for probably 30 years and my XH comes over with HIS new dog yesterday and all I could do was act like a total idiot while the puppy licked under my chin. WHO'S A GOOD BOY? WHO'S A GOOD BOY? YOU'RE A GOOD BOY YES YOU ARE YES YOU ARE!

That's exactly the way I read it. Let's not forget: every bad thing that has ever been done to marginalized communities has been done "for their own good".

How come people don't say that to cats? ;-)

Because then the cats would think we're stupid.

Wait, they already do, don't they?

I imagine that purging the 1/3rd of the armed forces that are minorities would be a costly job.

It adds up in a hurry. When you consider the assessed value per acre, then multiply by the 3.2 million acres in the Adirondacks, you get a very sizable sum. The assessed valuation is higher in the Catskills. Given the push by various groups to add yet more land means that the tax dollars aren't going to get any less.

OK - Lots of military and probably former US Military there.

Suggestions on where to find common ground:

#1 - Make high interest rate payday and title loans difficult to offer. Members of our Military are often victims.

#2 - When we lived in Alameda and the Naval Air Station was open, the biggest group of patrols of the Food Bank were military families transferred there but their husbands (this was the 1980's) were on sea duty and their paychecks were off somewhere else. What is done to make new military families welcome?

#3 - VA Hospitals and medical care - is that all it should be?

#4 - Job opportunities for Vets - including training if it is needed.

#5 - We know a high percentage of homeless people are Veterans. Many if not most of them have less than honorable discharges. They were self-medicating with alcohol or other drugs and got kicked out. What are doing to help them?

There's a start.
