All I know is I'm not reading about someone's underwear because you can't make me.

Paul P. was holding the hammer while they all talked. Suddenly dePape grabbed it and hit him so hard he was knocked on the floor unconscious and bleeding. DePape must have realized it was his last chance to really hurt someone named Pelosi.

She's still alive and kicking. What a shame.

That's what I'd understood. It seems like cops might could have been able to prevent the actual attack? Hard to tell. But if I were looking for cop malfeasance it wouldn't be that they were inattentive because they were soft on crime.

I think the police did an outstanding job. Yes, it would have been best if they had stopped the attack, but the attacker was armed and next to his victim when the police arrived. The suggestion that they should have instantly opened fire is insane. That would have endangered everyone in the room, as well as people in nearby houses and on the street. Walls do not always stop bullets and windows almost never do. Handguns are not particularly accurate and most shooters even less so. The police needed to analyze the situation before doing anything and then begin with the least destructive intervention. They took down and disarmed the attacker. He was too fast to prevent one blow, but the police handled him correctly. They then ascertained that he was alone. They called for medical help. Everyone survived and that's a good outcome to a violent situation.

There was a brief period when she seemed almost rational, but it didn't last long.

Source, please? I understood that the attacker had it, but Mr. Pelosi was holding his arm. The attacker was much stronger.

An inspiration not to be like her. AKA, bad example.

I still think the family deserves privacy and, barring legal necessity, control over any videos. That means they could choose to release them to contradict trump, but it's their choice. Same with the body cam video. That belongs to the police, but victims' rights and privacy need to be protected. If the video is releases, it will be aired practically 24/7. It would be painful to the Pelosis, their friends and families, and their well-wishers. It would be eye candy to the radical right and they would use it to glorify the attacker, just as they did with Kyle Rittenhouse.

This is a gray area, but I lean towards giving the victims the maximum control possible.

The attacker was next to Mr. Pelosi. The police were not and had just arrived on the scene. I agree it wouldn't take them long to assess the situation, but it doesn't take a maniac with a raised hammer long to strike out either, especially when his victim is 82 and not nearly as strong as the attacker.

There is more detail in the police report. They did not manage to prevent Mr. Pelosi from being injured--he had suffered some minor injuries before they arrived--but they did prevent him from being killed. And they didn't fire their guns, which would have endangered everyone around. I applaud them for that. Everyone survived, which is a pretty good outcome for a violent situation.

I believe the cops didn't shoot the perp because opening fire would have been extremely risky. Handguns are not particularly accurate; shooters even less so. The attacker was standing next to Mr. Pelosi. Any bullets fired would have endangered Pelosi, as well as people in nearby houses or on the streets. Walls don't always stop bullets and windows even less so.

I read that the four of them were talking and that suddenly he grabbed the hammer and hit P. really hard one time. I don't know the source except it was the police!

I suppose they were lulled by P.Pelosi's strategy and the other guy's craziness- having forgotten for a minute what his goal was.
