I got bullied in second grade. The kid just didn't like the look of me and kept picking on me. Eventually he told everyone in the class that he was going to beat me up on the front steps, after school.

At the end of that day, I had to go there to wait for my Dad to pick me up. Dad was never punctual; certainly never early. Drunks are like that. So I had to wait there while the crowd gathered 'round to watch me get beat up.

I'd never thrown a punch in my life.

It was cold out, so we were all wearing winter coats. The bully made a big show of taking off his nice new down-filled puffy coat (they were new and trendy then). I had an old cloth coat from the Salvation Army. I didn't take it off as it wouldn't be damaged any more by getting my blood on it.

At a certain point in taking off his coat, the bully had both his arms kind of entangled behind his back.

So I stepped forward and punched him in the face as hard as I could. His nose exploded in blood, and I ran away crying. Just then my dad pulled up and I jumped in the car.

The next day the Principal called the two of us into his office and made us shake hands. The bully had a big swollen nose with tape over it, and two black eyes. I was still pretty shaken up and sniffly.

And that was the last time that kid ever bothered me. We weren't ever friends, but he left me alone and we made a point of being civil.

President Joe Biden acknowledged his poor debate performance on Friday following a night that sent many in the Democratic Party into full-blown panic and led many to call for him to drop out of the race.

Toward the end of a campaign rally speech to a packed audience of supporters in Raleigh, North Carolina Friday, Biden admitted: "I don't debate as well as I used to."

"I don't walk as easy as I used to," he said. "I don't speak as well as I used to. I don't debate as well as I used to, but I know what I do well: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong and I know how to do this job. And I know how to get things done."
