A couple quick notes from someone living in Mexico.

1- this was not a case of "panic" or "furious" cartel members "rioting".

It was planned and carried out methodically. The cartel members were careful to not injure innocents. They commandeered and burned cars, typically in intersections to blocked govt vehicles.

2- It was scary looking, but not even close to a "war zone". In addition to cars, cartel members burned a bunch of empty Oxxos, and a Costco. They did NOT target small businesses. AFAIK, no one was injured.

3- People who actually witnessed these things first hand likely were not "freaked out". People who watched misrepresented videos or heard rumors on the internet were. Most people witnessing this stuff were more like "damn, they set that car is on fire".

Not to say this stuff was nothing to worry about or that it was NOT scary. I'm saying that a lot of this was misrepresented for clicks. Blocking roads and burning shit is a pretty standard way of protesting and getting attention in Latin America, and people who live here understood that.
