We need to acknowledge the point of this is to desensitize America to Republican's own crimes. Serious charges are being brought against Trump, so they just accused the other side of the exact same thing and make a spectacle of it, so they can claim "see both sides are just as bad." Doesn't matter whether the allegations are true or not, all that matters is that both sides get accused of the same thing. This is a strategy, and it's effective.

EDIT: There has to be a counter-strategy

I seem to recall back around 1990 Trump was short on cash for a payment on his casino loan. Big Daddy Trump went over to the casino and purchased well over $3 million in chips which he never cashed in, giving Donnie enough money to pay the bill and prevent a default. Whatever the gaming commission in New Jersey is called decided that was an illegal loan but only fined Trump about $50,000 or $60,000. And those chips were never cashed in. Which sounds like a personal gift to Donnie to the tune of at least $3 million. I wonder if gift taxes were ever paid on that?

The moral of the story? At least the Biden family repays their loans from family members. And pretty damned promptly.
